The art of Rio Grande do Sul and the Netherlands will meet in Porto Alegre, in August, through the artist from Rio Grande do Sul Santiago Pooter Roza Sena da Silva and the Dutch artist Nadie Borggreve. The “Cidades Paisagem/Landscape Cities” project, supported by the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Brazil and the Consulates General, seeks to stimulate cultural exchange between the cities Porto Alegre and Amsterdam, using the urban scenery of these metropolises as artistic development. “The proposal is to expand cultural exchanges through visual arts, as art plays an important role in the development and well-being of livable and sustainable cities”, highlights Santiago. Cidades Paisagem/Landscape Cities will take place at the Casa Baka cultural space, in Porto Alegre, for a period of artistic residency by Santiago Pooter and Nadie Borggreve, from August 5th to 16th. She comes to Brazil as a guest artist especially for this immersion. The result of this experience will be presented in an exhibition, from August 17th to 31st, in which the public will be able to come into contact with the works created together. The project presented by Santiago was selected in the public call for Cultural Connections, Habitable Cities – 2024, held by the Embassy and Consulates General of the Netherlands. This initiative provides funds for cultural projects that contribute to the quality of urban life, with a focus on the theme “Livable Cities”. The works of the two young artists reflect unrestrained consumption, which increasingly involves the depletion of natural resources and the global climate crisis, and seek to raise awareness of a new way of life. The Netherlands Business Support Office in Southern Brazil (NBSO Porto Alegre) team will have the support of a specialist in integrated territorial planning from the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO). She arrives to work in support of recovery actions in Rio Grande do Sul. Over the next six months, Thaísa Pessanha, together with the Dutch economic network in Brazil, will be responsible for communicating with the State government and Brazilian institutions about the impacts of the floods. She will connect Dutch and Brazilian stakeholders to facilitate stakeholder collaboration. The objective is to assist the exchange of knowledge, expertise, methodologies and technologies between the Netherlands and Brazil for climate adaptation and resilience in Rio Grande do Sul. In the international context, Thaísa Pessanha's work in territorial development has as its starting point sustainable and socially inclusive guidelines, in addition to co-creative methods in the joint development of solutions. Climate change, with the worsening of temperatures and precipitation, is a constant problem that she has been working on in global projects. Thaisa followed the work of the Dutch Disaster Risk Reduction and Surge Support (DRRS) program in several countries, linked to the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). In this context, she analyzed the achievements achieved by interventions, identifying the contributions of these projects in terms of security, awareness and local impact in cases of calamity. #DRRS #DutchDisasterRiskReduction #Floods #PortoAlegre #Diagnosis #Governance #Mitigation #ShortTerm #RVO #DisasterRiskReduction #NetherlandsinBrazil #NBSOPortoAlegre #DutchEmbassy #HydraulicEngineering #WaterManagement #Netherlands #solvingglobalchallengestogether NBSO Network, Jisse Kranen, Nynke Schaap, Wendy Wanner, Kingdom of the Netherlands in Brazil, Ben Lamoree, Caspar van Rijnbach, Lucila Almeida

INTEGRATED WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT, A DUTCH PERSPECTIVE Heavy rains and high-water levels often result in emergency floods that require immediate and adequate action. It is important to bring together various stakeholders in a broader approach, looking at water challenges from different perspectives. Some key elements are inherent to this holistic approach and include: •water governance •finance •innovation •long term vision above short term measures Read full content (EN): https://lnkd.in/dtF9yMCR #floodmanagement #watermanagement #innovation #netherlands #solvingglobalchallengestogether #climateresilience Netherlands Enterprise Agency Lucila Almeida Caspar van Rijnbach

Subsequently, they will forward a complete report with recommendations to the Municipal Department of Water and Sewage (DMAE) of Porto Alegre. 📢 The suggestions were presented by Ben Lamoree, Adri Verwey and Peter Glerum to the mayor of Porto Alegre, Sebastião Melo, and the general director of Dmae, Mauricio Loss, and department technicians. Proposals include the recovery of the flood protection system, the establishment of a monitoring system for levels, flows and winds, and the creation of mechanisms to verify the integrity of system components, such as dikes. 📝 The delegation from the Netherlands also suggests monitoring climate forecasts, issuing warnings to the population and creating an Integrated Flood Protection System, involving the municipality, state and federal government. The actions will be divided into four phases: immediate (until September 2024), short-term (until the end of 2025), medium-term (until the end of 2026) and long-term (until 2030). 🌎To prepare the report, the delegation met with technicians and representatives from municipal, state and federal governments, including researchers from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). The group visited floodgates, pump houses and dikes in the North, South, Center and Islands to assess the current structure of Porto Alegre's flood protection system. The experts also spoke to residents of the regions affected by the floods, to find out more about their realities and experiences. 📍The delegation is made up of experts from the Dutch Disaster Risk Reduction and Surge Support (DRRS) program in the Netherlands, linked to the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO). 🇳🇱 The actions are coordinated by the Dutch Diplomatic and Economic Network in Brazil, through the Embassy, the Consulate General of São Paulo and the Dutch Business Office in the Southern Region of Brazil (NBSO Porto Alegre). #DRRS #DutchDisasterRiskReduction #Floods #PortoAlegre #Governance #Mitigation #RVO #DisasterRiskReduction #Netherlands #HydraulicEngineering #WaterManagement #solvingglobalchallengestogether NBSO Network, Jisse Kranen, Nynke Schaap, Wendy Wanner, Kingdom of the Netherlands in Brazil, Wieneke Vullings, Caspar van Rijnbach, Lucila Almeida, Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development Photos: Luciano Lanes/PMPA
