The associate editor will also manage FanGraphs’ social media accounts, and will have the opportunity to contribute written work of their own.

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit stories from start to finish for quality, factual accuracy, context, style and grammar
  • Ensure writers adhere to the site’s publication schedule
  • Craft social media posts highlighting FanGraphs stories, site news and initiatives, and merchandise, with an eye toward increasing site engagement and traffic
  • Monitor baseball news to assist in story/idea generation
  • Pitch and write stories when applicable
  • Help organize long-term projects and coverage

Minimum Skills:

  • Strong news judgment, a keen eye for detail, and high standards for accuracy and clarity
  • Deep familiarity with modern baseball statistics and the public research landscape
  • Ability to detect and enhance individual authorial voices
  • Basic competency and familiarity with G-suite, email, and Slack
  • Ability to work some weekends and evenings as required by the baseball calendar and news cycle
  • College degree or equivalent experience

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with the SABR style guide
  • Experience working within a WordPress CMS
  • Familiarity with SEO and other concepts that make our articles easier to find and read

This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits. As FanGraphs is a web-based company, relocation is not required; this job can be completed from most geographic locations, as long as you have reliable internet access and are willing to work during the hours that readers in the United States are awake. Some weekend and evening work will be required.

I know that this posting is one big ruse and that the only way to get the job is to find the obscure grammatical typo in this post. Must… find… the typo…

Given that they specify the need to identify and enhance authorial voices, you really would need to first consider whether the lack of Oxford comma is stylistic.
