  • On Tuesday, a delegation from IOM Belgium and Luxembourg met with Minister Petra De Sutter. We shared our efforts in supporting the Belgian government on ensuring protection-focused migration management, through direct protection and assistance to migrants and displaced persons, and the establishment of regular pathways. We also highlighted the importance of engaging with migrants and diaspora communities to promote effective inclusion of this key population group in policy and programming designs. Thank you, Minister De Sutter, for your dedication to protecting the most vulnerable. We look forward to continuing our collaboration!

-- Leila B. Marise Habib Rob De Lobel Evi Vermeulen Lien Arits Mathias Gyselen Dr. Marlies Desomer

🌍 In June, IOM and Caritas international, in coordination with Fedasil, co-organised a study visit inviting their reintegration partners from several countries of origin.   IOM colleagues from the Republic of Moldova, Pakistan and Nigeria, together with Caritas International’s reintegration partners from Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and the Chechen Republic attended a week of knowledge exchange and capacity building in Belgium. Insights were shared on the importance of considering family dynamics that influence the reintegration journey of returned migrants. 🤝   Field visits to the Fedasil Info Point and a reception centre allowed delegation members to reflect together with responsible authorities on best practices and lessons learned. To end the week, Belgian specialised partner organisations joined a roundtable on assistance to vulnerable migrants.   ℹ Within the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration programme, IOM supports migrants who are unable or unwilling to remain in Belgium and wish to return to their country of origin. IOM provides assistance through pre-departure counselling and during travel. Afterwards, returned migrants are supported with their reintegration journey. IOM aims to provide sustainable reintegration assistance that supports the specific needs of a person within their community.   Thank you to the participating IOM missions and Caritas International's reintegration partners for the valuable contributions and exchanges! Curious about the challenges in data collection on remittances? 🤔 Our experts shared interesting insights during our National Remittance Summit 2024. 💡 Data collection on remittances can be better addressed through more indicators than the cost factor mentioned in the #SDG target 10c and the volume indicator in SDG 17.3.2. 💡 In order to voice the obstacles of diaspora communities when remitting, it is important to conduct surveys and focus groups. 💡 Countries are encouraged to include remittances in financial inclusion policies, paired with a feedback mechanism, ensuring reflective and impactful policies. ℹ Check out our data reports for more information: https://lnkd.in/edSDXvfy #remittance #sustainabledevelopment #IDFR2024 Killian Clifford Jimmy Jans Pedro De Vasconcelos Ahmad Wali Ahmad Yar Anke Van de Velde

  • ✨Looking back at another wonderful edition of the International Summer school on Transnational Family Dynamics! Supported by IOM, Odisee - Campus Schaarbeek presented an amazing program with insightful lectures, engaging workshops, and field visits. ✨ 💡Participants, including international students, practitioners, and experts, deepened their understanding of children's perspectives within transnational families. 🗣️They engaged with researchers and experts on topics such as assistance to unaccompanied migrant children, children in reception centres, integration, psychosocial support, multilingualism, cultural diversity, the EU Migration and Asylum Pact's impact on children's rights and more. 📍The summer school included visits to local organizations and Antwerp's Red Star Line Museum, as well as opportunities to tour the MigratieMuseumMigration and Fedasil in Brussels. 🎤An interesting debate on family reunification addressed the complexities faced by social workers, institutional challenges, and gaps in aftercare for reunited families. 🙌 Special thanks to UNHCR Belgium & Luxembourg, Caritas International.be, IOM, and the Belgian Immigration Office SPF Intérieur - FOD Binnenlandse Zaken for their valuable contributions, and to Dr. Pascal Debruyne for moderating. 👏Thank you to Platform for Undocumented Migrants (PICUM) and Missing Children Europe among others for delivering insightful sessions. Together with COST Association - European Cooperation in Science and Technology and Odisee hogeschool, funded by the European Union and Fedasil.
