vzw BENOR asbl will coordinate the CO₂ Performance Ladder implementation in 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗶𝘂𝗺, together with SKAO 🤝 🧐 The 𝗖𝗢₂ 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗿 is a certification system and green public procurement tool that encourages governments and companies to take effective measures to reduce their CO₂ emissions and reduce their impact on the environment. The Ladder has now been in place in the Netherlands for 15 years. The pilot phase coordinated by CO2logic, a South Pole company (2019-2023), bodes well for the structural implementation of this system in Belgium: ➡️ 62 Belgian companies already certified at level 3 or higher; ➡️ 5.5%: the average CO₂ reduction achieved annually 🌱; ➡️ 80% of companies are convinced that it offers added value; ➡️ Realistic CO₂ reduction and easy verification by procurers. In addition to these initial figures, the CO₂ Performance Ladder has other advantages: ✅ It is suitable for both small and large companies; ⏱ Level 3 can be achieved relatively quickly (within a year); 💶 Reasonable cost, the necessary measures do not require large financial investments; ✅ It provides a competitive advantage for companies and enhances their reputation as responsible players. ➡️Read more via https://lnkd.in/ehR3Wjtv #co2reduction #collaboration #greenpublicprocurement #belgium

It was a valuable day! A lot of information and knowledge was shared. And this is so important. Urban Logistics is a very fragmented sector. Most stakeholders know few and few stakeholders only know a part of the system good and from their own perspective or discipline. Cities and urban logistics sector face a lot of challenges. In workforce (enough employees), in having and developing new robust, efficient and affordable logistic chains while facing justified measures from cities to become sustainable, reduce harm to our health (zero emission) and staying livable and safe. It all is very, very complex; multidisciplinairy and multi-layered. I adressed these issues and the need for more and better collaboration between companies, industry organizations, governments and knowledge institutes. We need to know more, collectively, about the urban logistic system and develop a feasible road to sustainable urban logistics in 2050 or earlier together. On top of it all I adressed the important role of logistics in contributing to a circular economy to come in place. Stuff and materials need to be used and reused differently. That means new and other flows. What will those flows look like and how can we, for instance, use data, AI, and spatial planning to make them feasible?

After organizing the 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 in Belgium, a crucial event aimed at shaping the most just way the necessary ecological transition should take place in our country, I brought the debate to the European level during the Belgian presidency of the Council of the European Union. For two days, this conference I presided over gathered 350 participants from all over Europe: ministers, diplomats, representatives of employers and workers, organized civil society representatives, NGOs from the 27 member states. The objective was to unite around proposals that enjoy broad European support to feed the strategic agenda of the future European Commission. If we want to ensure a just transition in Belgium, as within the European Union, 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀! To stimulate the conversion to sustainable production methods, and to ensure access to decent working conditions and quality jobs for everyone so that no one is left behind.

The European Urban Initiative call is finally out! Energy Transition and Technology in Cities are the topics of the third call for Innovative Actions, with a total budget of EUR 90 million. The call is financing projects co-financed with up to EUR 5 million from ERDF testing bold and disruptive solutions with an impact on reshaping the future of the urban context. Local authorities have a great opportunity to team up with innovative stakeholders, but also to transfer the added value of the solutions proposed to other cities in Europe. Today we welcomed transport experts from all 27 Member States as part of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024. As a leading transport hub, we consider it crucial to exchange views with these experts, who play a crucial role in shaping the European Union's safe, secure, well-connected and sustainable transport framework. Our good connections to the European hinterland are some of our biggest strengths as a port. To optimise and green our connectivity, we invest in inland shipping, road transport, rail and pipeline connections. We also use state-of-the-art technologies, such as drones, to ensure all transport and other operations at the port can be carried out in a safe, sustainable, secure and efficient manner. Greening maritime transport is high on the EU’s agenda. And also on ours. That is why we are exchanging views with the experts on how to transform the port into a multifuel port, accommodating all alternative fuels for our shipping customers. Our fleet is another example of how we see the greening of maritime transport taking place: we already have a tug boat running on hydrogen and one on methanol. Moreover, we will soon add electric tugs to our fleet. This visit was a very interesting complement to another visit by energy experts last week, as we now had the opportunity to touch on two major regulatory fields: energy and transport. Not only is Port of Antwerp-Bruges part of an interconnected transport system, it is also an important hub in the EU’s energy network that extends far beyond the port’s borders into the deep hinterland of Europe serving industrial centres. As a port, we need a comprehensive European industrial policy that takes into account the transport, energy, circular and other dimensions to ensure the EU’s industry is ready to remain competitive and achieve the sustainable transition in Europe.
