📄💡Unleashing a Research Agenda for the EU Mission Climate Neutral and Smart Cities! This exciting first of its kind event brought together researchers from across Europe, held during the 2024 edition of the Cities Mission Conference on 25 June. The goals of this event were: - To outline the research aspects of #MissionCities' pilot activities; - To reconnect research with local practitioners in Mission Cities; - To identify current research challenges and gaps in the journey towards climate neutrality. Adopting a systemic approach to pave the way for sustainable transitions that can be scaled and shared at EU level was central to the session🌍 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eYgDwkWE #EUMissions #HorizonEU

💡LERU’s blueprint for #FP10: Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) is a fundamental part of the FP. Setting quality standards, stimulation mobility, improving training … The European Commission’s MSCA play an important role for early-career researchers, which is very much needed as universities experience increasing difficulties to attract young people to the research profession. MSCA is and has been a fundamental part of the framework programmes and should stay that in #FP10. To achieve this, LERU underlines the need for an increased #MSCA budget and suggests a continued focus on #DoctoralNetworks and #PostdoctoralFellowships. 👇 Iliana Ivanova, Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, Ursula von der Leyen

#LERU recommendation for the incoming European Parliament & European Commission 🇪🇺. Create workable synergies between EU programmes and with EU funds. All EU programmes should keep their specific focus, but also should be able to reinforce each other through well-developed synergies. To make these synergies a reality, the means for creating them must be written into the legal texts of EU programmes. Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/e8VVzHib

Our annual #LERU DIGE group meeting was hosted by the #universityofzurich and our newest member ETH Zürich The two institutions presented to us their specificities in terms of digital education and we particularly discussed the link between big tech and our higher education institutions. We also brainstormed on the themes we will work on as a priorities in the near future. This meeting was an opportunity to warmly thank our brilliant chair of the DIGE group Jan Haarhuis after 11 inspiring years.

💡LERU’s blueprint for #FP10: create less prescriptive top-down priorities in FP10’s pillar II The current level of detail in #HorizonEurope’s Strategic Plan is hampering the flexibility and agility of pillar II. Therefore, in FP10 the overall aim of different parts should be set out in clear and simple ways but the level of detail needs to limited. WPs and calls should not prescribe what approach to take or impact pathways to follow. EU leaders adopted the strategic agenda for 2024-2029, a policy plan that steers the EU's future direction and goals, with a special focus on a prosperous and competitive Europe 🇪🇺 : “We will build up our own capacity in sensitive sectors and key technologies of the future, such as defence, space, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, semiconductors, 5G/6G, health, biotechnologies, net-zero technologies, mobility, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and advanced materials. Promoting innovation and research, as well as leveraging tools such as public procurement, is crucial in this endeavour.” “We will boost Europe’s research and innovation capacity in emerging and enabling technologies, including for dual use. Achieving industrial strength in key sectors also requires the Union to safeguard fair competition, fight unfair practices, and ensure a level playing field both internally and globally.” Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/efPxMwU9
