In key areas such as climate change, energy security, or emerging technologies, our Members possess the necessary expertise, talent and knowledge in advanced science & technology to inform effective diplomacy and policy. In this position 'Shaping science diplomacy: Perspectives of universities of science & technology', we identify three areas where specific attention is needed for ongoing and upcoming efforts related to a European framework for science diplomacy. 1️⃣ Science in diplomacy: integrate scientific and technological knowledge and expertise for evidence-based policy. 2️⃣ Science for diplomacy: safeguard science as an independent bridge-builder for global collaboration. 3️⃣ Diplomacy for science: boost international scientific cooperation. 📢 Annual Report 2023: Highlights and Achievements During 2023, our association engaged in seven key areas of work through our task forces: Sustainability, Openness of Science & Technology, Learning & Teaching, Innovation, Benchmark, Human Resources, and Sustainable Funding. 📊 The report summarises the activities and deliverables of our bodies and highlights the impact we achieved. In a position published in April, our association provides guidance for the role of dual-use technologies in EU funding programmes to boost resilience, security and defence capabilities in Europe. The recommendations in the position are elaborated along two dimensions: ⚪ ensuring Horizon Europe and its successor continue to excel in advancing research and innovation excellence; ⚪ enhancing the European Defence Fund to strengthen dual-use technologies. The leading universities of Science and Technology (S&T) united within CESAER published a position paper in February titled ‘For a flexible, resilient and impactful Erasmus+’. Our Members have submitted individual responses to the public consultation on the past, present, and future of the Erasmus+ programme and with this position, we complement these with high-level recommendations. Each Friday, we will share a paper we recently published. We will start today with our input note 'Towards FP10: the next framework programme for research & innovation'. This input note summarises and synthesises previous contributions from our association. It also provides key considerations to help shape the design efforts of the successor of Horizon Europe, i.e. the framework programme for research and innovation 2028-2034 (‘FP10’).
