We are excited to partner with SolarPower Europe, AVERE - The European Association for Electromobility, the European Heat Pump Association, and RECHARGE – European Association of the Advanced Rechargeable & Lithium Batteries Value Chain for the Rooftop RE-connect: Networking Event post-Summer! 🍹 #DYK that aluminium is essential in the solar industry? Its lightweight properties and durability make it a key component for solar panels, which are expected to meet a third of the world’s electricity demand by 2050. Additionally, recycled #aluminium could meet 21% of the solar PV demand by 2040, contributing to a sustainable supply chain. Given this potential, we fully support initiatives to decarbonise the EU energy grid and boost renewable energy consumption, as affordable solar energy is vital for maintaining a competitive edge in our sector. Join us on 4 September at Rooftop 58 with 300+ key stakeholders for delicious refreshments and stunning panoramic views of Europe’s vibrant centre! We’re happy to back European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's new Circular Economy Plan in her next mandate! ✨ Aluminium is a total game-changer in the #circulareconomy. It's 100% recyclable and keeps its original properties no matter how many times it goes through the process. Plus, recycling #aluminium cuts energy use by a whopping 95% compared to primary production, slashing the carbon footprint of industries like construction, mobility, and packaging 🏗️📦 We're already hitting up to 90% recycling rates for certain applications, but to fully unlock the circular economy's potential, we need better laws for collecting and sorting #waste. This means designing for recycling, having dedicated collection systems, advanced sorting tech, and improved access to secondary raw materials. Supporting this new plan means boosting these efforts, cutting our carbon footprint, and driving sustainability in the aluminium industry and beyond. Let's make it happen! 💪 #circularchampions #recycling #sorting

We would like to endorse the announcement by Ursula von der Leyen, re-elected President of the European Commission, to propose a new Circular Economy Act in the next mandate. This aligns with our two key policy priorities for the next legislative term 2024-2029: ✅ Shift the #EU policy from its waste focus to a more resource-based focus ✅ Ensure effective implementation of the EU circular economy legislation #circularchampions #aluminium #glass #steel #circulareconomy

📢 The aluminium associations of the US, Europe, Canada, and Japan welcome the new OECD Trade and Agriculture report on the role of state enterprises in industrial subsidies. The report highlights that state-owned enterprises, particularly in China, are more likely to benefit from below-market finance, favourable competition rules, public procurement practices, and forced technology transfers. This analysis underscores the need for updated multilateral #trade rules to ensure fair competition globally. We also fully support all efforts, including new trade defence measures, to address non-market practices and create a global level playing field in the #aluminium industry. Read more in our joint press release with The Aluminum Association, Aluminium Association of Canada and Japan Aluminium Association. 👉 https://lnkd.in/edCcXiAC

Our 🆕 report explores the involvement of state enterprises (SEs) as both recipients and providers of subsidies, highlighting implications for market fairness and global trade rules.🌐 State enterprises (SEs) are increasingly influential players in global manufacturing and beyond. They're not just limited to traditional sectors like banking, energy, and telecommunications; many are pivotal in industrial supply chains, competing internationally through trade and investment. The OECD MAGIC database highlights that numerous top companies across key industrial sectors have significant government ownership, underscoring SEs' substantial role in shaping markets. While a few sectors see exceptions, SEs typically feature prominently in the top 10 companies by revenue, often with at least 25% state investment. This significant presence raises important questions about fairness and competition. Government ownership can provide SEs with advantages such as subsidies and preferential treatment, potentially distorting market dynamics. Despite these advantages, SEs often struggle financially compared to private firms, suggesting a complex interplay between support received and economic performance. Explore the complex landscape of state enterprises in industrial supply chains and discover how to ensure a level playing field for all market participants. 👉 oe.cd/il/5C3

The EU's latest sanctions package hits Russian LNG imports, marking a key step in reducing Europe's energy reliance on Russia. But there's one major sector still largely untouched – Russian #aluminium. 🤔 ➡️ The European aluminium industry has proven it can manage without Russian imports, cutting dependence on Russian imports by 35% in 2023. Russia now holds just an 8% market share of the EU's aluminium ingot imports in 2024. 📉 It's time for the EU to go all in! Let’s extend sanctions to include all major aluminium product categories, from ingots to slabs and billets. This move will further cut economic support for actions against European values and boost our #madeineurope industry. 💪 We’ve shown that decoupling from Russia is possible – now, let’s make it happen fully! 📢
