🚀 An industry coalition of 23 international associations from multiple sectors issued a joint statement, calling for a paradigm shift to reaffirm the GDPR's risk-based approach as the guiding principle. Enhancing dialogue between regulators, including data protection authorities, and the industry is essential to harmonize the interpretation of the existing regime. This balance is crucial for protecting data, supporting operational business needs, and fostering innovation while ensuring legal compliance. 🛡️📊 The new EU mandate must ensure a sustainable data use model, which should balance the right to personal data protection with other fundamental rights and public policy objectives, in line with the GDPR's original spirit 🌍📜 #GDPR #DataProtection #RiskBasedApproach #Innovation #EU #Data ACCIS AMICE Mutuals CEMA CoESS - Confederation of European Security Services European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA) European Association of E-Pharmacies (EAEP) EFPIA - European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations egta EMMA European Magazine Media Association EUROPEAN NEWSPAPER PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION European Publishers Council (EPC) ESOMAR ETNO Association Eurochambres FEBIS - Federation of Business Information Services FEDMA GESTE GSMA La villa numeris SMEunited VDMA

As signatories, CEMA, EUROMOT aisbl, EPTA, FEPA Publications, Euralarm, and EUnited aisbl proudly represent industries crucial to developing and upholding a resilient and reliable framework for setting standards in Europe. We fully support the EU Strategy on Standardisation’s goal of enhancing the functionality and agility of the European standardisation system. As the evaluation of Regulation (EU) 1025/2012 approaches, we see a valuable opportunity to reinforce transparency, scrutiny, and democratic values within European standardisation. By doing so, we can also enhance the flexibility of our standards on the international stage, providing European industry with a crucial competitive edge. To achieve these goals, we propose: 1️- Transparent rules for Formal Objections. 2- Defined timelines for the standardisation process. 3- Clear proceedings for the definition of transition periods for Harmonised European Standards (hEN). 4- Regular publication at fixed dates of new hENs in the Official Journal of the EU.
