2014

Schultz's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[8]

Values & Experience

  • Excerpt: "Growing up in this area, my parents instilled in me at a young age the values of integrity, honesty, and hard work. By following their example I have been able to become a successful entrepreneur and business owner. I have a deep love and respect for the people of this district and wish to get involved in public service to give back."

Economy & Jobs

  • Excerpt: "I will fight for regulatory reform. We must reduce government regulations that hinder the ability for businesses to be successful and eliminate unnecessary government red tape. Utah has recently passed historic tax reform. However, we must continue to fight to keeping taxes low and finding new areas to cut. My efforts will be focused on supporting and promoting cutting edge innovations."

Education

  • Excerpt: "I will work to empower parents by giving them the tools to decide which schools are best for their children. I support the recently implemented school grading system and will work to continue to improve it to allow parents the ability to get more specific information."

Energy

  • Excerpt: "Utah is an energy state. To me, energy is one of the most important issues I will work on as your legislator. Energy production is critical to our state economy, critical to our national security and critical to our quality of life."

2nd Amendment

  • Excerpt: "Our Founding Fathers got it right the first time. There is no wiggle room in our right to bear arms. Utah will not join the federal government in facilitating the current gun grab. I’m an avid hunter, gun owner and strong defender of the 2nd Amendment. If you are too, I need your support."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Utah

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states. To contribute to the list of Utah scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
