When Sandy residents became alarmed by an electrical substation zoning request, I listened carefully during public meetings. Then proactively contacted transmission experts to verify statements, organized and chaired a volunteer Master Planning for Power Committee, developed consensus, and cooperated with city officials to economically bury associated high-voltage powerlines. My leadership coupled with the combined team effort of many wonderful volunteers resulted in Sandy City giving me an Outstanding Citizen Achievement Award in 1998. I didn’t do it alone, nor can I represent District 42 alone.

Children are our most precious asset. Protect them and ensure an excellent education.

Maintain a positive business environment to provide jobs for all and especially parents of children. Minimal regulations, balanced state budgets, and support of free-enterprise are crucial.

Government's key role is infrastructure. Ensure master planning for roads, parks, schools, hospitals, mass transit where appropriate, and affordable housing.

Support & honor veterans, national guard, law enforcement, and firefighters.

Collaboration between federal, state, county, and municipal governments is important.

We must protect tax dollars from abuse and theft through fraud or mismanagement while helping those who cannot help themselves.

My father, Ned R. Ash. He served his country during 3 wars and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. He was a lion in defense of our nation and constitution. He was kind and helped crippled children of any race or color through his Shriner activities. He was proud to be an American. He taught me three words, Duty, Duty, Duty.

You have to show up and spend the time needed to be effective. Former legislators confirm this is not a part time job. It requires a lot of time throughout the year, not just during the 45 day legislative session. I am retired and willing to spend whatever time is necessary to effectively represent all voters in my district.

I am committed to preserving and protecting the freedom and quality of life of all Utahns. Elected officials are the watchdogs for "We the People." We need to preserve and protect the freedoms and protections elucidated in the Declaration of Independence, The United States Constitution & Bill of Rights, and the Utah Constitution. We also need to protect our citizens from excessive and burdensome taxation by seeking to limit the size of government.

We have a responsibility to dig out factual information. To listen to citizen advocates. To be creative in finding collaborative solutions to difficult issues. To ensure accountability and effectiveness of tax dollars spent. To champion ways to minimize or eliminate fraud, theft, or misuse of precious tax dollars. To make hard decisions regarding prioritization of spending to ensure critical needs are funded first. To champion transparency in taxation in any form. To seek expert input on issues. To be the people's champions. To work hard to understand the needs of business sectors that provide so many of the people's needs.

Individual states are the proving grounds for solutions that may apply to all 50 states. The rights of the states need to be protected from Federal overreach.

To be a watchdog to protect "We the People" from excessive taxes and government intrusion into their lives. To ensure that bureaucracy doesn't take the majority of funds earmarked to solve social or other problems. To ensure qualified bidding for government services and acquisitions.

To listen, care, act, and get things done economically and effectively for "We the People."

I lived an upright life spend serving others, doing good, loving my family, and championing American freedom and our way of life.

Dishwasher/Potwasher at Johnie's Big Boy restaurant on Speedway in Tucson, AZ. Hand got infected by a fork penetration. Doctor had me stay home for several days. They replaced me quickly because the dishes and pots must be cleaned! So I quickly got another job at the Lucky Wishbone on Swan & Broadway where I worked during my Junior and Senior year at Rincon High School and my 1st Semester at University of Utah. Started in the back, cooking chicken, cleaning pots , mopping floors, and cleaning the bathrooms. Worked up to the front of the restaurant and became one of the closing managers, counting the money received and closing up.

Cordial and collaborative relationship with very open two-way communication to identify, investigate, analyze, and find ways to solve problems and pursue opportunities that benefit the citizens of Utah. The number of bills vetoed should be minimal. We shouldn't waste time or resources on bills that we know will be vetoed. The only rare exception should be an issue that the legislature feels so strongly about that they know they can overturn a veto by the Governor.

Proactively and effectively pursuing master planning for roads and infrastructure due to rapid population growth while also preparing for the 2034 Winter Olympics. Affordable housing for our children. Preserving quality of life and protecting natural resources. Protecting Utahns from Federal Overreach.

Certainly there is a learning curve. Although previous experience may be helpful, the greatest determinants for successful public service are character, principled leadership, transparency regarding legislation and legislative goals, hard work, an ability and willingness to learn, a sense of duty to protect and serve the people, a willingness to invest the time needed to be effective, willingness to listen, seek consensus, and dig out the truth regarding key issues, and a passion for sharing findings with constituents.

It is critical. Legislators need to understand each others positions. Consensus is required to get bills passed. Relationships facilitate honest and effective communication and sharing of differing opinions regarding best options, solutions, and concerns. The best solutions come through collaboration and the synergy of shared opinions and options.

When I served as the Salt Lake County Chair, I was impressed with Jim Dunnigan and Greg Hughes.

No. My goal is to serve the citizens of my district, my city (Sandy), my county (Salt Lake), and all Utahns through proven, principled, positive leadership.

The description of the mother of a daughter with significant cognitive disabilities on how parents who are guardians are being treated by state bureaucrats. Telling parents of children with significantly limited abilities and understanding that their children should be completely free to come and go from protected facilities at will. Should have complete control of their food choices and finances. And can have work programs pulled that provide opportunities for those with significant cognitive disabilities to feel useful and productive.

The Executive Branch needs to be able to act quickly in the case of an emergency. But the Legislative Branch needs to be informed quickly and should have to ability to balance or "check" the power of the Executive Branch from overreach during an emergency. Legislators should be able to deliberate regarding actions of a Governor, County Mayor, City Mayor, or governmental agencies. They should have the ability to pass legislation to limit, extend, or cancel emergency powers exercised at the state, county, or city level.

Removal of any state income tax on Social Security benefits. The majority of states do not tax Social Security benefits. Social security payments are made throughout Americans' working lives with after-tax dollars. We don't tax Roth distributions that were funded with after-tax contributions. We shouldn't tax Social Security benefits either.

All tax and spending bills should be transparent to the citizens of Utah. Legislators have a responsibility to verify and report on the cost effectiveness of tax dollars spent on specific needs. There must be compelling privacy needs for any kind of non-transparency.
