  • Celebrating World Food Safety Day! A Shared Responsibility for a Healthier Future Today, on World Food Safety Day, we come together to highlight the critical importance of food and beverages safety and the vital role it plays in our daily lives. Food safety is not just a concern for governments and industry; it is a shared responsibility that involves every one of us—from seed to sip. Ensuring the safety of our food and beverages is crucial for protecting our health. Unsafe food can lead to foodborne illnesses, which affect millions of people globally every year. Every link in the chain from ingredient sourcing to manufacturing to consumers has a role to play in maintaining food safety. Simple things, like washing hands, avoiding cross contamination, and storing your drinks properly, can help maintain the safety and integrity of your products until the very last drop! At ABCL our commitment to ensuring the highest standards of safety is one we share with all. Join us in celebrating World Food Safety Day by raising a glass of your favourite non-alcoholic beverage and toasting to health, quality, and safety! #WorldFoodSafetyDay #FoodSafety #SharedResponsibility #NonAlcoholicBeverages #Australia

It’s World Environment Day! 🌎 Let's come together to protect our planet by ensuring beverage containers reach recycling at their end of life. Every can, bottle, and carton you recycle either in Container Deposit Schemes or kerbside enables new beverage bottles to be Remade in Australia again and again. You can be a recycling champion in your community and set an example for others to follow. Remember, small actions lead to big impacts. Together, we can create a cleaner, greener world for future generations. Cheers to recycling! ♻️🍃 Tanya Plibersek #WorldEnvironmentDay #RecycleForGood #GenerationRestoration

  • 🌍 Happy Earth Day from the Australian Beverages Council! Today, we take time to celebrate our planet and reflect on our industry’s commitment to sustainability. Through investing in and contributing to Container Deposit Schemes, reducing waste and resource use, and promoting eco-friendly and innovative materials, and through our Environmental Sustainability Roadmap to 2030 (ESR30) the beverages industry is constantly seeking new ways to practice good stewardship of our environment. Together, we're taking strides towards a greener future, ensuring that every sip is a step towards a healthier planet. Let's raise a glass (or reusable bottle!) to Mother Earth and pledge to continue our efforts in conserving resources, protecting wildlife, and fostering a more sustainable world for generations to come. Cheers to Earth Day! 🌎 #EarthDay #Sustainability #BeveragesIndustry #GoGreen

  • The Australian Beverages Council, National Retail Association and Australian Association of Convenience Stores responded today to a call for a tax on sugar sweetened drinks. Highlighting the ineffectiveness of such taxes around the world in lowering the rise of obesity, overweight of diabetes, the three industries called the proposed tax illogical and merely a revenue raiser. With more than two decades of decline in consumption in Australia of sugar from drinks, during which obesity, overweight and diabetes have continued to rise, it's clear that soft drinks are not driving the nation's expanding waistline. Additionally, in countries where such taxes have been implemented there has not been a single example of where these taxes have lowered the rise of obesity, overweight or diabetes. Highlighting the industry's Sugar Reduction Pledge - a commitment to reduce sugar across pledgees' drinks portfolios by 25% from 2015 to 2025 -ABCL CEO Geoff Parker said that without a tax, Australia's top non-alcoholic drinks manufacturers had already achieved an 18% reduction in Australia's consumption of sugar in their drinks by the end of 2022. Parker urged other sectors to play their part and commit to their own reductions in sugar, saturated fat and sodium. • The ABCL was delighted to represent our industry at the Federal Government’s inaugural High Risk Weather Season National Preparedness Summit. We collaborated with delegtes from many sectors including business, government, not for profit and emergency services to improve preparedness and action for upcoming weather events. It’s great to see the learnings we have all brought to the table from COVID and multiple flood events to help shape a better future response to impacts on our supply chain in the future assuring Australians, no matter where they are located, will get the essential supplies they need.
