🌟 Revolutionizing Spiritual Care in Australia! 🌟 Inconsistent spiritual care in hospitals can adversely impact patient well-being and safety. That's why, beginning in August 2022, SHA led a collaborative effort to create Australia's first co-designed contemporary model for spiritual care. 🏥 This initiative was supported by the engagement of MosaicLab Co and key representatives from Alfred Health, the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, and the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne. The model is now being piloted across 11 sites to ensure it meets our country's unique healthcare needs. After evaluation, our aim is to roll out the model nationally, setting a new standard for spiritual care in health services. 🌱 Learn more about the National Model for Spiritual Care in Health here: https://loom.ly/yzxixXQ 🔗 #SpiritualCare #PersonCentredCare #CoDesigned #AustralianHealthcare #HealthcareInnovation #PilotProgram

Last month, our CEO Craig Exon presented at the Spiritual Care Australia Conference at ACU in North Sydney. He shared insights from the evaluation of the pilot process for the National Model for Spiritual Care in Health, and led a discussion on best practice in spiritual care. 🌟 Reflecting on the event, Craig said, 'It was fantastic to meet so many spiritual carers from across the country in person. There were some truly inspiring workshops and presentations, and I am eager for more research and collaboration to measure the impact of Spiritual Care on a person's well-being in the health journey and beyond.' 🤝 If you missed Craig's presentations and want to learn more about the National Model and best practice in spiritual care, visit this link 🔗 [https://loom.ly/YNs191I] or contact us here 📧 [https://loom.ly/l9M_QDQ]! #SpiritualCare #BestPractice #Healthcare #Wellbeing #SCAConference

🌟 OUT NOW: SHLEAC’s educational video, ‘Nurturing Mental Health with Spirituality’ 🌟 Launched on the winter solstice, the event was a bittersweet moment for the committee, as cessation of funding from the Victorian government means SHLEAC’s advocacy work in mental health is no longer supported. Despite evidence that supports the positive correlation between health, wellbeing and spirituality, this continues to be neglected in mental health care. To raise awareness by those who know first-hand what supports recovery, the committee decided that their voices and experiences in relation to spirituality needed to be heard. Spanning 12 minutes, the video strives to inspire, inform, reduce stigma, and showcase the transformative impact of integrating spirituality and spiritual care into mental health services. 👀 Watch now! https://loom.ly/rmhLXX8 #MentalHealth #Spirituality #SpiritualCare #LivedExperience #Advocacy

“Mental wellbeing is a dynamic state of complete physical, mental, social and spiritual wellbeing in which a person can develop potential, cope with normal stresses of life, work productively and creatively, build strong and positive relationships with others and contribute to their community.” (Royal Commission Victorian Mental Health System, 2021) In mental health care, it is crucial to acknowledge the interconnectedness of the four dimensions of wellbeing. In particular, the spiritual beliefs, values, and practices of consumers should be considered as they can influence the course of their mental illness. (Royal Australia New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, 2018). This approach ensures true person-centred care that is holistic and reflects current best practice. — This post is part of our series highlighting the Heart & Soul Matters booklet. A sense of connection to self and others supports us to participate fully in life. When challenged by mental illness, this connection which lies at the heart of being human becomes dislocated. Spiritual care recognises this dimension of a person and supports individuals in their search for meaning, purpose and hope as they seek re-connection. This process helps people reassemble the pieces and re-experience life in its wholeness. In this way, spirituality plays a fundamental role in helping people live with or recover from mental health issues. — This tile kicks off our series on the Heart & Soul Matters booklet. A valuable guide that explains why the recognition of a person’s spirituality in their individual support plan is integral to health and wellbeing outcomes, it is designed to equip mental health workers, carers and family members with essential information to confidently engage in conversations within the spiritual domain of people’s lives.
