I'm thrilled to announce that Fender Katsalidis' project The Alba has tonight received the Apartment Award for Excellence in the Ageing in Place category. This truly is a pioneering project, repurposing an existing office building to provide 95 residential aged care suites and 60 assisted living apartments. We deeply admire our client Australian Unity's attitude to custodianship of land and urban fabric. Their commitment to retaining and re-purposing this building after 50 years serves as an inspiration to all, as we urgently work to decarbonise our industry. Last week, the FK team proudly joined ISPT and project partners to celebrate the official reopening of 500 Bourke Street. We're excited to announce that Deicorp's Marquet & Mary development in Rhodes, has received planning approval. The 32-story FK-designed residential tower will deliver 214 new apartments to the inner-west suburb with an array of residential amenities and a mixed-use ground plane with a new public laneway. "Canada Bay City Council's swift approval of the development application underscores the project's significance," explains FK partner Craig Baudin. "Marquet and Mary goes beyond simply providing much-needed housing. It will also revitalise a currently underutilised lot, completing a crucial missing piece in the Rhodes precinct." Updated designs for Crystalbrook Collection's new luxury hotel have been revealed. Located on Garema Place, plans focused on increasing room keys to 238 and extending the 5-star hotel's offering to include a ballroom, pre-function area, wellness amenities, multiple F&B establishments, a 25-metre pool, and a rooftop restaurant. Committed to preserving the site's cultural heritage, the hotel will incorporate the city's first al fresco dining venue - the beloved Gus's Cafe - relocating it to an expanded corner position on the same intersection it has occupied since the 1970s. We're proud to see The Alba featured in ArchitectureAU's recent article highlighting successful retrofit and adaptive reuse projects around the world. With strategic interventions and retaining the dated commercial building's core structure, our design approach appropriately changed the building's use, extending its lifecycle for another 50 years with a saving of 3,379 tonnes of emodied carbon. Home now to 155 aged care residences, outcomes like these motivate us to continue pushing the boundaries of innovative design.
