Six months after Tropical Cyclone Jasper wreaked havoc on Far North Queensland, Barron Gorge Hydro Power Station is back online, producing clean energy for Queensland. In December, just weeks after celebrating its 60th birthday, the hydro power station was swiftly taken offline due to the inundation of water in the Barron River following Tropical Cyclone Jasper. Extremely high water levels in the Barron River caused significant damage to critical infrastructure at the Kuranda Weir which stores water required for power generation. Over the past six months, which were some of the wettest in recent memory, we have carried out critical infrastructure works at the Kuranda Weir including the completion of a temporary rock wall, or coffer dam, which has now reinstated the function of the weir and enabled the power station to come back online. It also provides safe access for the next phase in the recovery which includes the construction of a weather resilient, permanent concrete wall at the weir. Over the course of the recovery, we have been proud working closely with a range of local stakeholders including tourism operators like Cairns Adventure Group and we're so happy to see them back on the river. 📸 Cairns Post

Over the past two days, we had the immense privilege of facilitating a Cultural Agility session with some extraordinary minds at CleanCo Queensland hosted by Regional Economic Solutions. The session, titled "Building on the Strengths of our Stories," was a profound journey of learning and connection. We delved into inspiring conversations that highlighted the importance of integrating First Nations perspectives into the core of CleanCo’s work in the renewable energy sector. This commitment is not just about inclusivity but about recognizing the invaluable contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures to our collective future. A poignant truth we explored was how Queensland’s energy infrastructure, which now powers the state, was built with the wages forcibly taken from Aboriginal people by the Queensland government. Understanding this historical injustice fuels our dedication to embedding ethical practices and true reconciliation into our projects. Thank you to everyone who participated for dedicating your time and hearts to these transformative discussions. Together, we’re paving the way for a future where the strengths of all stories illuminate our path forward. 🌏❤️ #CulturalAgility #CleanCo #RenewableEnergy #FirstNations #TruthTelling #Reconciliation #BuildingOurFuture #RegionalEconomicSolutions #RES #BOTS

We are repurposing the old Swanbank B coal-fired power station into the brand new 250MW Swanbank Battery! This means removing a lot of concrete to make way for new foundations that will house the battery system. How much concrete do you think has been remediated from the site of Swanbank B? #Battery #CleanEnergy #Swanbank

Have you ever wondered how Queensland's original and only pumped hydro power station works? Operating like a giant rechargeable battery, Wivenhoe stores energy generated from renewable sources like solar power during the day and releases it when it's needed most, during peak demand times. This process allows us to harness the power of water, ensuring that even when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing, Queenslanders have access to clean, reliable energy. #pumpedhydro #qld #energy
