We are Australian Energy Producers, the peak body of the explorers, developers and producers of essential energy.
About us
Australian Energy Producers has roughly 200 members, comprising oil and gas explorers and producers active in Australia and companies providing goods and services to those explorers and producers. Our member companies produce around 95 per cent of Australia’s oil and gas. The oil and gas sector plays a fundamental role in our nation’s economy, providing essential energy to power businesses and homes in Australia and across the world. Our sector invests billions of dollars to generate reliable, secure and cleaner energy, creating jobs and economic growth for the communities in which we operate. Australian Energy Producers supports net zero across the economy by 2050, consistent with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the commitment of the Commonwealth Government. Australian natural gas is pivotal to the energy system transformation in Australia and the region, providing the firm dispatchable energy required to unlock our renewable energy potential, and powering Australian industries including those processing the critical minerals necessary for net zero.

Simon has worked at Woodside for over 38 years. He spent three years as a graduate at Karratha Gas Plant in Western Australia’s North West, supporting domestic gas delivery, before continuing his near four-decade career at our company. “Sometimes I pinch myself that I’m still here. I didn’t imagine my career at Woodside would span this many years, but I am so grateful I chose Woodside and that Woodside chose me.” Simon started at Woodside during a significant period in our history – the beginning of the North West Shelf’s LNG industry. Today, as part of our 70 year celebrations, he reflects on watching the first LNG cargo set sail for Japan from Karratha in 1989.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting Starlight Children's Foundation Australia representatives – Cath, Rose and Jesse – at Ichthys LNG in Darwin for a partnership lunch-and-learn session. 🌟 The INPEX team had the opportunity to be inspired and see firsthand how Starlight is making a positive difference and bringing joy to seriously ill children - a cause close to the hearts of many, including some of our own team members and their families. During the session, Starlight provided insights into their impactful programs, such as the Starlight Express Room at Royal Darwin Hospital and the Healthier Futures Initiative, followed by a positive distraction game. INPEX and the Ichthys Joint Venture are proud long-term partners of Starlight Children’s Foundation. A big thank you to Cath, Rose and Jesse - it was an absolute delight to have you! Ichthys is a joint venture between Total Energies, CPC Corporation Taiwan, Osaka Gas Co., Ltd., Kansai Electric Power Australia, JERA and Toho Gas.

Australian Energy Producers Chief Executive Samantha McCulloch today joined resource sector leaders for a panel discussion at The Courier-Mail’s Future Resources initiative. A key discussion point was the wide-ranging contribution the oil and gas sector is making across Queensland, delivering substantial jobs and government revenues, while supporting tens of thousands of businesses. It was also made clear that these benefits are only achieved if there is regulatory stability to support the significant investments from the sector. Queensland’s world-leading LNG industry is a great example of what can be realised with the right investment environment. The panel discussion, including Janette Hewson - Queensland Resources Council, Samir Vora - BRAVUS & Nick Jorss - Bowen Coking Coal Ltd. put the spotlight on the economic, employment and community benefits the resources sector delivers across the state.
