'If we want to lift performance in our schools – and this was the recommendation in my report – we need a curriculum that makes very clear what teachers should be teaching, what students should be learning and we should focus on what’s really important in subjects.' ACER CEO Geoff Masters spoke to ABC Radio this morning about the ACER review that has informed a revised primary school curriculum in NSW, announced today. 'If you’re clear about the pathway of learning and you have good assessments of where students are, then you can target individual students where they’re at to promote their further learning,' he said. Our article just published in the Teaching and Teacher Education journal is a case study of how learning through play holds a fundamental role in a significant reform to increase students' critical and creative thinking, ability to manage their emotions and resolve conflicts, and their skills in problem solving, collaboration and communication. Leaders of this ambitious system reform have said it would be impossible without 'motivated teachers who enjoy the freedom of creativity and professional development'. We couldn't agree more. https://lnkd.in/giEMuM5j

'Creativity, culture and context' - the theme of the Special Education Principals' and Leaders' Association (SEPLA) Conference - describes areas ACER is very familiar working with. We look forward to discussing how and learning from others, so if you're at #SEPLACON2024 please stop by our booth for a chat.
