AMBC Victoria was grateful to participate in the Australia-Malaysia Business Leaders Rountable organised by Asia Society Australia. Our Vice President, Josh Chye shared insights from the business council's perspective and we look forward to continuing our support for strengthening bilateral trade and engagement between two countries.
It has been a very productive few weeks meeting and hearing from diaspora leaders across Australia's Southeast Asian business community. In collaboration with our friends at the RMIT Asia Trade and Innovation Hub, Asia Society Australia has been working on a Federal Government initiative to map Australia's Southeast Asian communities and hear directly from local Asian-Australian leaders on how diaspora can play a greater role in Australia's trade and investment with Southeast Asia. This project is supported by the the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and responds directly to the Federal Government's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy / Nicholas Moore Report. While we are busy writing up the report, one finding is clear: Australia has a very active network of Southeast Asian Australian business leaders and networks who already do a lot with very little. These leaders and business councils are ready to play an even greater role in assisting Australian companies navigate business and cultural complexities across Southeast Asia. Thank you to Francis Wong, OAM OSJ, Josh Chye, Tessa Sullivan, Minh Cao, Tran Nguyen, Lydia Santoso, Rafael Toda and John Tantoco for supporting our work. Thank you also to our research team Greg Earl, Chris Khatouki, Genevieve Donnellon-May and Aster Haile. Thank you also to our Austrade colleagues Craig Young and Philippa King. We look forward to sharing more on our Southeast Asia diaspora work later in the year.

🌏 #Melbourne is home to over 18,845 Malaysia-born individuals in Victoria and 9,151 Malaysian students who live, work, and study here. This vibrant diaspora is an incredible source of opportunities for building friendships, learning and business ventures. 👏 Kudos to the City of Melbourne and the Malaysian Consulate General Office for hosting an insightful Malaysia Diaspora event, showcasing Melbourne and Malaysia’s strengths in climate adaptation, decarbonisation, and city resilience. All the more special being held in the lovely supper room at the Melbourne town hall. It was a pleasure to hear from our own Australia Malaysia Business Council Victoria member Ravi Krishnan from MRCB share about how sustainability is at the core of their business plans and designs with plenty of case studies and future trends. 🌟 Amazing turnout with over 200 registered attendees and lots of fun hanging out with so many AMBC board members! #Melbourne #Malaysia #Diaspora #Sustainability #ClimateAdaptation #Decarbonisation #CityResilience #Networking #Community #BusinessOpportunities
