What a great visit to our pet nutrition partners, Hill's Pet Nutrition Australia along with the wider Colgate-Palmolive team last week. Assistance Dogs in training, Kiko and Willow, joined our NSW Team Leader and Instructor Chris and National Breeding Manager, Mel, to catch up with our friends at Hills and update the team on our exciting expansion plans. Regular visits from Assistance Dogs in training and Ambassador Dogs are a perk of working with us! We don't stop supporting our clients the day a dog is placed we provide support in many areas throughout a dog's career including advocacy. Advocating for our clients manifests in a multitude of ways, recently it's been a partnership with 13cabs and Guide Dogs Australia. Travelling in a taxi with an Assistance Dog can be challenging and together with 13 Cabs we are excited to facilitate opportunities for the taxi industry to understand the needs of our clients and establish a best practice. A variety of our clients collaborated in a focus group to share their real-life experiences and feedback with 13 Cabs. Their input is invaluable in creating a best practice that incorporates the needs of the client and their Assistance Dog. It's National PTSD Awareness Day, and we're here to remind everyone that not every disability is visible at first glance. Trauma can have a complex impact on individuals and we're proud to support Australians with PTSD by providing PTSD Assistance Dogs. PTSD can manifest in many components of one's life, from anxiety, avoidant tendencies, depression, night terrors and much more. PTSD Assistance Dogs read body language and sense stress indicators to interrupt stress and assist in regulating one's emotions. Some are even capable of sensing night terrors in advance and waking up their human to avoid night terrors altogether. Veterans and First Responders are ADA's most common PTSD Assistance Dog recipients, two professions that often lead to trauma exposure. We encourage you to check in on those in your life who are constantly exposed to trauma and help them find the support they need. Something that might seem simple to you such as a quick grocery shop or dining out has the potential to be triggering for someone with PTSD which is why the need for PTSD Assistance Dogs and inclusive spaces is ever-growing. We were delighted to join Hyundai Help for Kids in their IView suite at the Gabba for last Friday's Brisbane Lions game. Brisbane Lions welcomed us with open claws and made it a memorable night for all people and pups in attendance. Assistance Dog Olive attended to support her family and set a perfect example for Assistance Dogs in training Nacho and Hayley who also enjoyed the game. High-distraction exposure is a key component of their training and both pups smashed it.
