At @ANU’s Asia Pacific Week in #Canberra this week, Abt’s Principal Climate Lead Satyendra Prasad drew attention to the intensifying challenges faced by #Pacific small island states. “Climate change impacts on all areas of their development: from maintaining their physical infrastructure, to rebuilding food security to being able to respond to new health challenges. Geopolitical contestation in the region distracts energy and resources away from their efforts to tackle these worsening problems. Many Pacific states are unconvinced that international institutions are able to provide the level and pace of support that they now need,” he explained. Dr Prasad invited scholars and researchers to work with Pacific island institutions to help frame new pathways to steer some of these countries away from heightened #fragility. Abt Global

We're delighted that the second phase of the Australia-Cambodia Cooperation for Equitable, Sustainable Services (ACCESS2) has been officially launched by Australian Ambassador Justin Whyatt in Phnom Penh. Attended by Her Excellency Dr Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister for Women’s Affairs, His Excellency Professor Chheng Ra, Minister for Health and His Excellency Chea Somethy, Minster for Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation and President of the Disability Action Council, the ceremony celebrated the continuation of Australia’s flagship bilateral investment in disability inclusion and gender-based violence response and prevention in Cambodia. “ACCESS 2 reflects Australia’s strong commitment to support disability-inclusive development and gender equality in our region. These are core Australian values and a top priority in Australia’s new international development policy,” said Ambassador Whyatt. ACCESS 2 will continue working with national and sub-national level government and non-government organisations (NGOs) to ensure that persons with disabilities and survivors of GBV have access to the services they need.
