Children differ from adults with their smaller body size and their traffic perception, movement behavior and hazard assessment. In the KISIMO project, the movement behavior of children was examined under laboratory conditions. The stopping distance of children of different ages did not differ. However, older children were faster and therefore had higher decelerations than younger children. They also reacted more quickly to a corresponding signal. The project was funded by the Austrian Road Safety Fund. #https://lnkd.in/d_wuFZCr #https://lnkd.in/dxUjDDzd #https://lnkd.in/dACHMty6 #https://lnkd.in/d-wM7YMQ #https://lnkd.in/dWicSqtv #children #road safety #pedestrian #VSF picture © Martin Nußbaum

The Vehicle Safety Institute at TU Graz deals with research questions in the field of transport safety.
Info
Current research at the Vehicle Safety Institute at Graz University of Technology focuses on safety of vehicles with different levels of automation, safety of alternatively powered vehicle concepts and development of methods for the evaluation of systems to prevent accidents and reduce injuries. Therefore, basic research in the interdisciplinary fields of "Safety Aspects of Electric Energy Storage Systems", "Critical Traffic Scenarios", "Human Modeling with focus on Trauma Biomechanics" and "Crashworthiness of (Bio)Materials" is carried out. In each of these fundamental areas, investigations are performed both by means of numerical simulations (e.g. explicit finite element simulations) and experiments. A wide variety of data analysis methods (e.g. machine learning) are used, which are continuously improved.

In the last week of school, there was a safety day at BG Rein. Alexander Hödl and Ernst Tomasch managed a road safety session and demonstrated the protective capabilities of cycle helmets to the children. The pupils were then encouraged to make and test their own helmets. Acceleration signals were recorded and compared with accelerations that would act on the head without a helmet. # BG Rein # Safety # Bicycle helmets The full video of the safety day is on https://lnkd.in/dAn8gaYX

This year‘s carhs training gmbh Safety Update Austria is going to be very special. Why? - We celebrate 20 years Vehicle Safety Institute at TU Graz and have a look back an forward - We will see a lot of updates in Euro NCAP protocols being prepared for 2026 including the Introduction of Virtual Testing for Frontal and Far Side - We will have very exciting presentations on our special topic day focusing on occupant status monitoring and adaptive restraints and how the first one can support the latter to ensure best possible protection for everyone Stay tuned for the final program. Today we have published a very first teaser: https://lnkd.in/d6M36Mz It will happen on the 24th and 25th of September. Make sure you don’t miss the early bird discount!

On May 24th, our institute took part in the Long Night of Research in Austria and had the chance to show our research at Technische Universität Graz to the public. This provided us with the opportunity to present and discuss findings from our current research initiatives in the field of battery safety, also from ongoing funded projects including: - SafeLib - BattBox - NEMO EU PROJECT - E-Trac. - … The overall title of our engaging stand was "What occurs when an electric car battery reaches its threshold?", which leads to very fascinating and very interesting discussions between scientific and public participants. Thanks to Technische Universität Graz for the opportunity to join, all the helpers from our institutes and especially to all participant.

💫 Last Friday, the #NEMO_project and the Vehicle Safety Institute - TU Graz participated in the Austrian-wide event Long Night of Research, an initiative aimed at promoting research to the public. Graz University of Technology set up an engaging stand and held a fascinating demonstration titled “What happens when an e-car battery reaches its limit?” Patrick Höschele, Project Senior Scientist at the Graz University of Technology’s Vehicle Safety Institute, and his colleagues Christoph Drießen and Jun Yin, both PhD candidates, represented our project at the event.
