artsPlace is Canmore’s community arts centre, offering accessible arts and culture-based programs, classes, workshops, and public performances for all age groups and across multiple disciplines: visual arts, ceramics, textiles, fabrication, digital arts, film, music and drama. artsPlace features a number of teaching, exhibit and performance spaces including classrooms for ceramics, fabrication and visual arts, a black box performance/film theatre, and a public gallery space, as well as digital presentation capacity.

Current Opportunities

Director of Communications

Reporting directly to the Executive Director and working very closely with the artsPlace senior management team, the Director of Communications is responsible for strategic communications planning and management for all artsPlace activities and strategic initiatives, as well as development and management oversight of all traditional and digital/social marketing initiatives, public relations, and brand identity.

This is a full time senior-level permanent position offering salary commensurate with experience and a full benefits package.

Responsibilities:

  • Communications strategy and campaign development and management
  • Traditional and digital marketing strategy development, and implementation oversight
  • Social media strategy development, and implementation oversight
  • Public Relations management
  • Internal communications management (Staff & Board)
  • In conjunction with the artsPlace IDEA Committee, and Programs Team, developing and managing direct marketing program to underserved communities, including the use of community ambassadors
  • Managing and maintaining a strong brand identity through meaningful storytelling, creative content, and an authentic brand voice
  • In partnership with the Director of Fund Development and Strategic Initiatives, strategic Fund Development/Event messaging and communications materials development
  • In partnership with the Director of Fund Development and Strategic Initiatives, strategic Initiatives messaging and communications materials development (artsPlace expansion project + Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives)
  • Annual Report writing and management
  • Strategic Plan public-facing communications planning, messaging, and material development
  • Imagining and writing communications materials across multiple digital and traditional platforms
  • Oversight of the development of the artsPlace website and other social platforms
  • In conjunction with other artsPlace staff, development and dissemination of crisis/emergency communications across multiple platforms
  • Supporting the development of ongoing systematic feedback mechanisms for artsPlace programming and community-focused strategic consultation
  • Ongoing analysis and evaluation of the effectiveness of all communications initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Training in or experience working in the arts or non-profit sector
  • A minimum of five years working in a position of responsibility in communications, marketing, or a related field
  • Extremely Strong oral and written communications skills with a focus on effective storytelling
  • A strong understanding of marketing principles
  • Experience managing a small team, and individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience development internal communications systems and external feedback mechanisms
  • Strategic campaign development and management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and organization skills, superior attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, work under pressure and complete tasks in an efficient and timely manner
  • Familiarity with, and the ability to use multiple contemporary communications tools, the Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite, CRM & CMS platforms, databases and registration/ticketing systems, social media tools, email marketing platforms etc.
  • The ability to work both independently and as an important member of a small, committed team
  • Familiarity with fundraising principles, creating a case for support, and understanding of what makes for an effective campaign

Programs, Operations, and Communications Coordinator

Reporting directly to the Executive Director and working very closely with the Director of Communications, and the Programs team, the Programs, Operations, and Communications Coordinator is responsible for supporting the overall effective operations of artsPlace including administrative and other support to the Board of Directors, Programs and Communications teams.

This is a full-time entry to mid-level permanent position offering a salary of $48,000 + benefits package. Note: workdays are Sunday to Thursday 9 am to 5 pm.

Responsibilities:

Operations

  • Rentals Coordination and care
  • Database/sales system administration, troubleshooting, and development
  • Board and Board Committee administrative support
  • Customer Service as first point of contact at Front desk, on phones, and general email inquiries; welcoming program participants and visitors, communicating program information and building protocols
  • Program & Event sales and servicing
  • Program participant communication – email & phone
  • General office management including office equipment, office supplies, facility care
  • Cash reconciliations and bank deposits

Programs

  • Instructor contracting and payment reconciliations
  • Private program coordination (school groups, birthday parties, corporate & wedding groups etc.)
  • Programs and audio-visual set-up
  • Canmore Festival of Art & Creativity logistics support
  • Gallery and Program materials ordering support

Communications

  • Social media content creation, posting and monitoring
  • Programs, performances and subscriptions (multiple performances) building in ticketing system (Patron Manager) and on website
  • Targeted/direct communications coordination and/or support
  • Other communications/marketing support tasks matching skillset and as needed

Other duties as assigned

  • Familiarity with, and the ability to use multiple contemporary communications tools, the Microsoft Office Suite, Square POS, content management systems (website backend), databases and registration/ticketing systems, social media and email marketing tools (Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Tik Tok, Mailchimp etc.) and a general comfort level learning, mastering and troubleshooting new software programs in a timely fashion
  • Customer service experience
  • Natural inquisitiveness, strong research skills, and superior problem-solving abilities

Evening Operations Coordinator

Reporting directly to the Executive Director and working very closely with other senior management team members, the Evening Operations Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the artsPlace facility on weekday evenings and providing administrative, programming, and technical support to facilitate the smooth and efficient operations of artsPlace.

This is a full-time evening (Monday to Friday, 2 – 10 pm) entry to mid-level permanent position offering a salary of $48,000 + benefits package.

Responsibilities:

Customer Service

  • Customer Service as first point of contact at Front desk, on phones, and general email inquiries; welcoming program participants and visitors, communicating program information and building protocols
  • Program & Event sales and servicing
  • Program participant communication – email & phone

Administration & Facility Support

  • Concession sales and operations management (ordering, pricing, display, promotion etc.)
  • Daily Cash reconciliations o Inventory taking
  • Post concert artist fee reconciliation and payment
  • Program entry and maintenance in online Registration/Ticketing system (Patron Manager)
  • Square Point of Sale systems administration
  • Facility rentals and private programming administrative

Program and Event Support

  • Screening films
  • Performance, AV, studio and program set-up
  • Supporting special programs and events
  • Program support based on skill set and as needed
  • Evening instructor support
  • Programs Materials storage coordination and ordering
  • Gallery set-up & support, and coordination of exhibition openings
  • Green Room Set-up

Part-time Staffing Coordination

  • Part-time staff scheduling and training
  • Internal part-time staff ongoing communications and systems development
  • In conjunction with Volunteer Coordinator, weekday event volunteer care and training

Communications & Fundraising Support

  • Website maintenance and updating
  • Database maintenance and list updating
  • Movie pre-show creation & coordination
  • Social Media content creation (Photography and Video storytelling)
  • Email newsletters
  • Creation of tax receipts
  • Fundraising administrative support as needed
  • Fundraising special event and campaign support

Other duties as assigned

We are looking to employ artists who can teach ceramics, painting, drawing, crafting, photography, writing, and theatre skills to adults and children. Other arts practices also welcome!
