We stayed at Raffles for a birthday treat - sadly for only one night, but we loved every second. The little birthday ‘extras’ were appreciated and we especially appreciated the history tour. We were surprised it was only the two of us booked in - ask to do it, it is a must!!! You might think you ‘know’ Raffles, as almost the entire tourist world does, but there is so much more to learn. Being checked in in your room, rather than at a front desk, is a nice touch, as is having the butler run your bath for you! We took our own special champagne with us and the ice bucket we requested was there is a flash and without any guilt imposed for an ‘outside’ purchase. The verandah we had was wide, spacious and inviting.  Had we had the luxury of a longer stay we would have relaxed out there much more, but we busied ourselves exploring the grounds, having drinks at the courtyard bar, enjoying the artworks in the hotel, checking out the Hall of Fame (it is very tucked away but go and find it!), having drinks at the Writers Bar and taking the history tour as mentioned…..oh and watching the ridiculous performance by many young women (and some young men!) clambering all over the blue fountain like they were models.  It was nearly impossible to get a photo of the lovely fountain without someone in our photos puckering their lips and posing!!! It’s such a shame for that extremely classy hotel that it has become an instagram thing and has zillions of people just milling around for the benefit of their instagram accounts. The only aspect we wouldn’t repeat would be dinner in ‘yi by Jereme Leung’ as we found it just a bit ‘strange’.  Conversely, we’d be very happy to have breakfast again in the Tiffin Room, or another meal. The egg white omelette was particularly good!! So many interesting things on the buffet including even rollmops/herring. Fantastic! And for a sweet tooth, the huge ‘puffed up’ pancake is a good choice!  Although the price tag may be high, just as you would expect, we considered it justifiable for a short stay as we found everything about the hotel to be classy at every single turn, and throughout every moment we were there.
