Great Staying at Hotel Santa Clara

The hotel is amazing as well as all the amenities, but most importantly, the staff is fantastic. Jeremy Zúñiga took care us of during our staying, was very helpful, cordial, friendly and respectful. He always greeted us with a smile and went out of his way to make us feel comfortable at the hotel.

Colombian hospitality at its finest! This is the second time we've visited/stayed here...both times we were treated to a world-class experience. The staff/service, food, facilities, and experiences offered by the Santa Clara Team were exceptional. The hotel property itself is deeply rooted in Catagena history and has inspired some of Colombia's most renowned literature. The former monastery founded in 1621 has been beautifully maintained (in many ways preserved) and while naturally maintaining its Old World charm and mystique, houses modern amenities and luxuries offered at much more modern hotels. The mostly local Colombian staff are a testament to warm, attentive, and personal hospitality typical of Colombians...taken to the level of a luxury establishment. While Sofitel forces their French branding through greetings, etc., the French have nothing on the local Colombians when it comes to providing world-class service with a genuine personal touch. They would do well to let their guests experience Cartegena and Colombia, un-tainted by any French "flair"...personally, we came here for the Cartagena experience, and largely because of the exceptional local staff, we definitely got it. Accommodations were modern, clean, and well-appointed...nothing fancy or over-the-top luxurious, but everything they needed to be to make our nightly (very late nights) respite comfortable and relaxing. We spent a large part of one day at the pool, which given Cartagena's year-round sriffling heat and humidity. The cabanas were nice and provided extra protection from the sun (Arrive NLT 0830 to claim one! There are only 8 or max 10). Poolside service was again exceptional...attentive, responsive, accurate, professional, and always very friendly and warm. Cocktails were all top notch, and the grilled offerings around lunchtime were delicious and perfectly portioned. Note: there is no deep end...the entire pool is for wading...a wonderful wet deck, if you will. We took advantage of several activities offered by the hotel: - a mixology class with 20 yrs+ experienced bartender Alexis who was just a super human being all-around, - the rum and chocolate experience at the 1621 reataurant with Food Service Manager Kenny (wonderful experience, education, and delightful conversation...English and Spanish, Kenny is fluent), - a couples spa date which we hardly remember because it was so relaxing (massage, facial, spa bath, champagne), - drinks and appetizers at both the Coro and Botika bars. Coro features live latin music each Fri and Sat...bring your dancing shoes! Botika has a DJ playing an upbeat mix of Latin and other genres...and a nice view of the old city wall and beach. - the out-of-this-world 10-Course tasting experience for dinner at Cartagena's #1 fine dining establishment, the 1621 restaurant. These are all dishes made from local Colombian ingredients and presented as small plates...they are creative, thoughtful, beautiful, and delectable. The service was of course world class...again, with the warm, personal touch we've come to love about our Colombian hosts. This is an experience we will remember for a long time...and look forward to enjoying again in the near future! Overall, the Santa Clara is a must-stay for anyone wishing to experience more depth and warmth of Colombian hospitality and rich local culture and history in a truly exceptional property. We can't think of any other property in Cartagena now where we'd prefer to spend multiple days. The Santa Clara has everything we need and want...and do it all with high class.

Exceptional hotel in Old City Cartagena. Cannot say more about the warm hospitality by the staff, to the accommodations, gourmet food & maid service. All done in a classic European style. Kevin, one of the porters was very engaging & helpful, giving us suggestions where to go & what to do. It is evident he enjoys his position. Would recommend this hotel to anyone who is planning a stay in the Old City.

I would like to recommend this to any traveler looking for a family friendly, beautiful, historic and nostalgic classical environment. German was very attentive upon check-in, and upgraded us from two rooms to a suite for our entire family. Although this is also an option we could receive through AMEX, we did not have to ask and it was provided and we were very pleased with our upgrade and wonderful suite. Our family received excellent service from Yordi was awesome all throughout our stay, providing friendly service by the pool, wonderful food and beverage choices and even some extra perks that he surprised our family with like a special lemonade that we coined the “Yordi Special Lemonade” (frozen lemonade, with coconut cream, and peppermint). Ernesto was an excellent Butler, and provided a personalized small tour of the hotel with wonderful details regarding its historic relevance and anecdotes about famous legends and real life stories that took place in the building. The service was great, food was excellent, the staff and team paid attention to detail in their professionalism and service. Would definitely recommend visiting and we plan to return :-)

This is a historical building which has been beautifully preserved. The grounds are well maintained and the staff are very pleasant and helpful. Santa Clara is a beautiful hotel with a lovely courtyard and pool. The breakfast is very diverse and abundant. The concierge staff were very helpful in recommending tours. Marco Antonio set us up with a nice tour of the Rosario Islands. When my sister-in-law fell ill and she couldn’t attend the tour he was able to coordinate a refund from the company for her. Great job. I highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Cartagena.
