An Endocrine Society Thematic Issue: Nuclear Receptor Biology 2018

September 2018

Read our special collection of journal articles, published between 2011–2018, spanning a variety of nuclear receptor and hormonal signaling research along with highlights from speakers at the 8th Great Lakes Nuclear Receptor Conference. Curation of the collection was guided by citations, Altmetric Attention Scores, and Featured Article designations.

Research articles investigate the role of nuclear receptors in the development of disease; examine species-specific differences in transcription factor binding and function; identify the molecular chaperone, FKBP51, as a regulator of PPARγ in white adipose tissue; and identify FXR as a gut-liver metabolic regulator of FGF15/19. Additional research articles study the role of estrogens in neurotransmission within the cerebellum, identify the cistrome and transcriptome of FOXO1 and its transcriptional regulation of the progesterone receptor, detail the importance of sequencing constraints in nuclear receptor binding, investigate the role of nuclear receptors as molecular sensors of environmental chemicals, and much more. There are several review articles in this collection that examine posttranslational modifications that affect lipid-regulated nuclear receptors, the p160 family of nuclear receptor coactivators and their involvement in diverse physiological processes, how steroid hormones can regulate stem cells using the prostate as a model, and others.
