Beryl brings relief from heat in an unusual way

Winds not rain to moderate the air and end heat wave
Updated: 27 minutes ago

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -One of the hottest days of the year is concluding with what promises to be the warmest night of the summer. Lacking rain, overnight lows will hold onto 80 all the until dawn in downtown locations. This is likely the end of the third heat wave of the season with a strong westerly wind blowing less hot air our way on Thursday. In the sub- tropics ( including Miami, Puerto Rico, Cancun and the Bahamas) what takes the edge off the heat in early summer is the famous trade winds that blow. So even a 95-degree day can feel fine, so they say! All this is a prelude to a few days in the 80s fanned by brisk westerly winds (our pseudo trade winds). But the trade winds subside and a new heat wave is slated to start on Friday in time for the start of the Putnam County Fair.
