FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY | Excessive Heat Warning

(WSAZ) - The steam-bath feel hit us right from the start of the day, with temperatures already in the 70s at sunrise and cruising toward 90° before lunchtime, even with passing clouds in the sky. This afternoon’s high temperatures should be in the mid-90s, but that humidity will elevate into the triple-digits for what could be as much as six hours in a row. This is why the National Weather Service has gone with “Excessive Heat Warnings” for the Huntington-Charleston-Logan corridor, above the seemingly ‘usual’ Heat Advisory. The best recommendation this afternoon is to simply stay within the comfy confines of air conditioning, but if you do go outside, hopefully, it’s because you’re on the way to a different beat-the-heat excursion, like going to the pool. Road and construction crews will have it difficult this afternoon, and hydration will be key. Likewise, hopefully the sporting practices and games will be mercifully delayed to later in the evening. Check up on your neighbors who don’t have air conditioning. During the peak heating in the afternoon, we can see a few showers forced into being, but mainly in the southern mountains. Even around midnight tonight, the temperatures will stay in the 80s.

3 Weather Alerts In Effect

Meanwhile, the remnant moisture of what was Hurricane Beryl (now a compact but regular low-pressure system), will be entering the western Ohio Valley and streaming northeast toward the Great Lakes on Wednesday. Though we’ll miss out on the brunt of its rain, we’ll get enough of a piece of the system as it passes to keep temperatures in the 80s on Wednesday and Thursday. This will be by way of some passing showers (rather than constant rain), more prevalent clouds, and a decent tropical breeze that will still wrap around this low pressure core. If we play our cards right, we may well end up with a pretty serviceable day on Thursday, with Beryl’s clouds heading out and temperatures still holding in the mid-80s.

High pressure will push back in after that, and stick around for the weekend. It won’t take long before the sunshine compels temperatures to go right back to the 90s again. We may well be looking at yet another heat wave starting this weekend.
