First Alert Forecast | Excessive heat today, relief tomorrow

(WSAZ) - An Excessive Heat Warning is in place for central portions of the WSAZ Viewing area until 8 PM today. With feels-like temperatures reaching 100° plus this afternoon and evening, you will need to drink multiple sips of water every 10 to 20 minutes. Be sure to take breaks in air conditioning, pools, or a splashpad, and know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Meanwhile, the remnants of Hurricane Beryl is working its way through the region as we speak, which is part of the reason we’re seeing so much humidity entering into our atmosphere. The humidity will be what gets you today - not necessarily the heat. Heading into the afternoon, as the sun comes out, mid 90s highs will be likely, with high humidity contributing to the aforementioned heat indices reaching 100°+. To the west, more force will develop a few showers and storms this afternoon, with a few of these storms reaching the western portions of our viewing area (west of US-23) by the time we reach the evening.

While there is a severe weather threat out toward Cincinnati and Louisville, our region will see very little impact from storms, as they will be sub-severe once they reach our area. The isolated storm threat will continue as we head into the night. Increasing winds, and very humid air overhead will contribute to lows that will be very warm - only into the middle and upper 70s. It will definitely be a night for the a/c.

Beryl’s remains will work in for the morning hours of tomorrow, bringing a cold front through the region and developing an isolated shower or storm threat. Overall, the threat will look low, and the region shouldn’t see a whole lot of impact from this system. Breezes, though, will pick up in the afternoon. Winds should gust up to 25 mph, with 10-15 mph sustained winds.

High pressure will develop for the day on Thursday, allowing the region to see very nice weather. Northerly winds will continue to develop in cooler temps (into the low 80s), and high pressure will allow for sunshine to develop into the area. Once again, though, high pressure will kick eastward, and temperatures will begin to skyrocket back into the 90s by the end of the week and into the beginning of next week.

We’ll see showers and storms try to develop in the day on Friday, but better chances will exist as we head into the beginning of the week next week, with scattered showers and thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday. 90s are expected to continue here as well.
