PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – A man and a woman were sent behind bars this week in connection to the severe neglect and abuse of a disabled woman.

According to court documents, after receiving a tip about the alleged abuse, law enforcement arrived at the home and reported a strong smell of sewage coming from under the house.

The criminal complaint states Robert Kelley opened the door. Officials also reported a strong smell of body odor and could see roaches inside the home.

When they asked to speak with the alleged victim, officers say Kelley wheeled her to the door.

Sores were visible on both her legs, the criminal complaint states.

One large wound looked severely infected, and small bugs were visible inside of it. Another wound was wrapped, but small bugs were found crawling under the bandage, officials wrote.

Kelley told officials he took the victim to the doctor ‘a while back’ and they wrapped her leg, but that the victim wasn’t taking care of the wounds.

The victim told officers she wanted out of Kelley’s care immediately.

EMS arrived, and the victim was taken for medical treatment.

Adult Protection Services were called to investigate the situation, officials say.
