US 52 reopened after HAZMAT situation

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio-(WSAZ)- All lanes of US 52 WB reopened Saturday afternoon after a HAZMAT situation.

The road was closed for approximately three hours while emergency crews responded to a HAZMAT situation involving an unmarked barrel of Cobalt Thiocyanate Hydrate.

A volunteer fire department discovered the barrel on Saturday and flagged down a nearby Trooper from the Ohio State Highway Patrol for assistance.

Troopers suspect that the unmarked barrel of Cobalt Thiocyanate Hydrate fell off a passing vehicle.

Investigators are reviewing dash camera footage from a trooper’s cruiser near the area of the incident to identify the barrel’s owner.

The barrel was transported to an EPA facility, according to troopers.

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio. (WSAZ) -According to dispatchers, the westbound lanes of US-52 in Lawrence County, Ohio, are shut down due to a HAZMAT situation.

The HAZMAT situation was reported just before 1 o’clock.

Traffic is being diverted from US 52 WB to County Road One until further notice.

It’s unclear what caused the incident or when the road will reopen.

Lawrence County EMS, Lawrence County Hazmat, and Ohio State Highway Patrol are on the scene.

WSAZ has a crew headed to the scene.
