Cabell County Schools Superintendent Tim Hardesty released the following statement: “Our staff joins with our community in mourning this tragic loss. The families of those involved as well as all who loved them are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.”

Braxton’s grandmother, Debbie McComas, tells WSAZ he loved playing music and lacrosse, volunteered at an animal shelter, and was always willing to help anyone with a problem.

She says he was working to get into a good college to study astrophysics and was an old soul who was a great example to his peers.

A teen passenger in McComas’ vehicle suffered major injuries as a result of the crash and was taken to the hospital, police say.

The driver of the second vehicle involved, Joshua Michael Wilson, 23, of Middleport, Ohio, was also taken to the hospital, but faces charges of DUI causing death and DUI causing serious bodily injury once released, according to the Barboursville Police Department.

The victim’s grandmother says she hopes this helps others understand the dangers of driving under the influence.

The driver and passengers in the third vehicle involved were uninjured, officials say.

Floyd’s Nursery is located by the intersection. Their security camera captured the crash. Workers say they’ve shared the video with police for their investigation.

“It was hard watching,” Mattie Chapman, who works at Floyd’s, said. “It’s just tragic.”
