HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Chris Grassie and Greg Beals aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. During the State of Marshall Athletics press conference, the school announced contract extensions for the men’s soccer and baseball coaches. Grassie’s new contract was extended through 2031 while Beals’ deal goes through 2029.

Grassie led the soccer team to an NCAA Division I national championship in May of 2021 and In seven seasons with Marshall, he has accumulated an 85-35-17 record. Last year, his soccer team won both the regular season and conference Sun Belt titles.

In his second season on the diamond for Marshall, Beals coached the first season at Jack Cook Field where the team won 14 times in 2024 and 18 overall. Athletics Director Christian Spears said this about Beals. “Coach Beals is a phenomenal person – a player’s coach and a community leader with a family who cares deeply about what we are trying to build here at Marshall. If we all stay together, we are going to win here because of all those factors. We want to make sure Coach Beals, his family and our student-athletes know we are all-in on seeing them succeed!”
