CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The Class AAA boys state baseball championship game was as good as advertised as Cabell Midland edged George Washington 3-2 Saturday morning. It’s back to back championship for the Knights who finished the year with a 27-9 record. Jared Nethercutt was the winning pitcher after going 6 and a 1/3 innings while striking out four. GW’s Eli Smith was equally impressive in relief with eight strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings and allowed just one run on two hits.

The game ended in dramatic fashion in the top of the seventh inning. George Washington had runners on first and second with jut one out and Chuck Kelly smashed the ball but it went right to Kenyon Collins who performed an unassisted double play to secure the win.

Midland is the first back to back Class AAA champions since Jefferson did it during 2015 and 2016 seasons. Here are the highlights and post-game reaction from both teams.
