HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - There were pregame fireworks to celebrate opening day at Jack Cook Field and more on Marshall’s first at bat. On the first pitch in the bottom of the first inning, Tre Hondras sent a fastball out of the ballpark to give the Herd an early 1-0 lead. The Herd added to that lead in the bottom of the third when Calin Smith hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored AJ Havrilla to make it 2-0.

The Herd went yard again in the bottom of the 7th when Owen Ayers hit a solo home run to the grassy hill in right field. The final score ended up 3-0 in favor of the Herd as starting pitcher Drew Harlow went six innings and allowed just three hits. Marshall reliever Nicholas Weyrich struck out eight batters in three innings to seal the win.

Here are the highlights and postgame reaction.
