HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall’s Women’s Basketball team suffered its first conference loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 72-63 contest to James Madison in front of 2,526 fans at Cam Henderson Center.

With the loss, Marshall sees its 10-game winning streak come to an end. The Herd is now 16-6 overall and remains atop the Sun Belt Conference at 10-1 in league play.

“We didn’t shoot it great, but that’s more hats off to them and their defense,” Marshall Women’s Basketball coach Kim Caldwell said. “They forced us into some rushed shots and we were never really comfortable on the offensive end.”

Marshall was led in scoring by Breanna Campbell, who finished with 16 points and five steals. Abby Beeman added 15 points and six assists while C.C. Mays netted a season-high 13 points in the loss. Aislynn Hayes also hit double-figures with 10 points.

Caldwell said Marshall was never able to get into a rhythm with the Herd hitting just 30 percent of its shots in the game.

James Madison (16-7, 8-3 SBC) was able to capitalize with its length inside and found its rhythm offensively, finishing at 58 percent from the floor.
