Frontier overview

Frontier Internet is a fiber-optic and DSL provider available in 29 states. Frontier Fiber, available in 17 of these states, offers speeds ranging from 200 Mbps to 5 GB. Founded in 1935, Frontier Communications is headquartered in Norwalk, Connecticut, and it currently offers a range of services, including internet, phone, premium antivirus software, tech support and identity theft protection.

Frontier’s internet speeds vary by area, with fiber areas reaching up to 5 GB. Their prices start $10–$15 lower than other top fiber providers like AT&T Fiber and Verizon Fios. Read on to learn more about Frontier Internet, including popular plans, pricing and availability.

Frontier Internet plans and prices

Compare Frontier Fiber internet deals by speeds and pricing. While prices are guaranteed for 12 months, a prorated early termination fee (ETF) and an equipment restocking fee apply if you cancel the service before the year is up.

Frontier internet review

In our Frontier internet reviews, we rated the provider 3.7 out of 5 for its fast fiber speeds, unlimited data and reasonable prices. Frontier falls short in terms of availability and connection types. Additionally, since certain Frontier offers come with an ETF, you may need to consider other options if you require a no-contract internet plan.

Despite Frontier providing symmetrical speeds of 1 GB or higher in its fiber areas, much of its rural network still relies on DSL internet with speeds under 100 Mbps. Frontier also had subpar ASCI scores in the non-fiber categories.

Methodology

We rated the largest internet providers in the U.S. for 2024. Each provider was rated on a scale of 1 to 5 based on over a dozen factors, including speed, cost, availability, fees, customer satisfaction, connection type and more. We also used data from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to compare the average speed offered by internet companies in the U.S. to set a baseline for what is considered a good internet speed. Additionally, we analyzed data from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) to understand how each internet service provider (ISP) fares in customer service and perceived value.

Best Frontier Internet plans

Choosing the ideal Frontier Wi-Fi plan hinges on the ways you use the internet and the number of devices you have connected. While the budget-friendly 200 Mbps plan is perfect for homes with few devices, households that need the best speeds for streaming will benefit from a plan with 1 GB and higher

If you’re unsure about your current internet speed, a quick Frontier internet speed test can provide the answer. Read on to help determine which of the five Frontier internet plans is best for you.

Fiber 200 – Cheapest fiber plan

It’s hard to find a better price for fiber internet service at this speed. Frontier’s 200 Mbps plan can easily sustain 10 devices at once when gaming, streaming or web browsing. This cheap fiber deal also includes a premium Wi-Fi router, but one-time installation charges may apply.

Fiber 500 – Best for average connected households

Frontier’s 500 Mbps plan is best for households with 10–20 connected devices. Homes with multiple people online simultaneously will appreciate the dedicated fiber connection that keeps buffering to a minimum and the reasonable monthly price of $44.99.

Fiber 1 Gig – Great value

At $64.99/mo., Frontier’s Fiber 1 Gig plan is one of the best values based on cost per Mbps. This plan is best for households that are ultra-connected all day long. It also includes an Amazon eero gateway — an excellent router designed to cover a substantial area. Consider this plan if you have smart devices like security doorbells and monitoring systems, as well as the typical tablets, laptops and gaming consoles on your Wi-Fi network.

Fiber 2 or 5 Gig – Best for 40 devices or more

Frontier offers multi-gig plans for those seeking the fastest available connection. Two plans above 1 GB provide the ultimate bandwidth for households with over 40 connected devices. The 2 GB and 5 GB plans come with free professional installation and high-quality routers: either the Amazon eero Wi-Fi 6E or the TP-Link Archer AXE300 Wi-Fi 6E.

These plans are a good fit if you dislike waiting for updates or large downloads and value a low ping rate (how long it takes data to reach the server and return, e.g., responsiveness in online gaming). However, a downside of these superfast plans is their limited availability and high post-promotional pricing of nearly $200 per month.

Frontier Internet and TV bundles

Rather than offering Frontier cable, Frontier partners with YouTube TV, a streaming and live TV service, to provide TV bundles. The bundle will give you a $10/mo. discount on your selected YouTube TV plan, and charges for this service will appear on your Frontier bill. YouTube TV offers DVR recording, unlimited cloud storage, three simultaneous streams and no contracts or equipment fees. Frontier also offers Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

Frontier vs. other internet providers

Other internet providers you might find in a Frontier internet service area include Cox, Spectrum and Xfinity. These home Wi-Fi options may offer starting prices below Frontier’s standard rates. However, Frontier’s base plan is generally a better value since it offers a fast speed of 200 Mbps, while the cheapest plans from other providers are between 50 and 100 Mbps.
