Conor McGregor's next fight isn't limited to his physical battle with Michael Chandler, as McGregor and Chandler took on coaching roles for The Ultimate Fighter Season 31. This show highlights what happens when aspiring MMA fighters live and train together for their upcoming UFC fights. Conor McGregor started his fighting career in Ireland. After a bit of a slow start, McGregor then went on a eight-match win streak, with only two of those fights lasting into the second round and none reaching the third. He won the Cage Warriors Featherweight and Lightweight titles in back-to-back matches, thus becoming the first European MMA fighter to boast of being a champion in multiple weight classes at the same time.
That success led to McGregor making his UFC debut in 2013. He won Knockout of the Night in that initial match and shortly after won five straight Performance of the Night awards on the way to unifying the UFC Featherweight Championship.
McGregor then won the UFC Lightweight title but was later stripped of the belt due to in-ring inactivity. Soon after he fought his second and third matches against Dustin Poirier, the last of which was a defeat that led to McGregor's recovery and pursuit of a comeback bout against Michael Chandler.
Conor McGregor came into his last battle against Dustin Poirier with a stress fracture in his ankle. McGregor has indicated since then that he could have canceled the bout but decided against it. That decision helped lead to the broken leg injury he suffered, which gave Poirier the win.
McGregor needed surgery and a long treatment regimen to get his leg back to fighting shape.
McGregor's last major UFC win came against Eddie Alvarez in 2016. This means he needs a notable victory in order to justify another run at a UFC title.
