U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy on Monday introduced a resolution demanding the termination of U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle following the attempted assassination of former President Trump more than a week ago.

Cheatle was questioned on Capitol Hill Monday by the House Oversight Committee and has been called on to resign by the top Republican and Democratic lawmakers on that panel and other bipartisan members of Congress. Cheatle acknowledged her agency failed in protecting Trump but has refused to step down.

Rep. Tim Kennedy calls on CDC to delay international pet travel rule

Rep. Tim Kennedy has joined the bipartisan calls urging the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to delay new rules that would require dogs entering the U.S. from Canada to be older than six months and have a CDC-approved Dog Import Form, among other things.

“I am working across the aisle to ensure people can continue to cross the Northern Border with their canine family members,” Kennedy said in a statement. “This CDC policy places an excessive burden on U.S. citizens, especially in border communities like ours, which will contribute to increased processing time, longer border backups, and diminished economic returns. The CDC must delay implementing this rule until we find a more balanced approach.”

Westchester County Executive George Latimer has picked up a big name endorsement for his primary challenge against incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Jamaal Bowman. On Monday, Latimer announced that former Rep. Mondaire Jones, who is trying to make a comeback to Congress, endorsed the county executive.

Bowman was first elected in 2020 after beating longtime incumbent Eliot Engel in a Democratic primary for New York's 16th Congressional District seat and is facing his own challenge from the Westchester County executive. Bowman is a member of the group of progressive Democrats known as "the Squad" and has been endorsed by progressives from Bernie Sanders to Jumaane Williams and the New York chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. While Bowman has the support of the progressive group The Jewish Vote, he has lost the endorsement of J Street PAC.

Although a bill that would ban TikTok from U.S. app stores unless Chinese company ByteDance divests itself from the company passed the House of Representatives on Wednesday with broad bipartisan support, seven of the votes against it came from New York City Democrats.

Texas man arrested, accused of trying to scam former Rep. George Santos

Federal prosecutors say a Texas man tried to defraud former New York Rep. George Santos out of $900,000 by claiming he could get the criminal charges against Santos dropped.

House subcommittee subpoenas former New York Gov. Cuomo over handling of nursing homes during COVID

The U.S. House of Representatives select subcommittee investigating the COVID-19 pandemic subpoenaed former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to provide testimony related to his administration’s handling of nursing homes during the outbreak, according to a letter obtained by Spectrum News 1.

The Republican-led Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic specifically wants to question Cuomo’s controversial March 25, 2020, state order that required nursing homes to take in COVID-19 positive patients if they were able to. The Associated Press reported a year later that, as a result, more than 9,000 COVID-19 patients were transferred into nursing homes between March and May 2020.
