Discover our new signature fan, an identity unique to every Mandarin Oriental hotel and an unmistakable symbol of our oriental heritage. This ceramic artform encapsulates what it means to be Exceptionally Singapore, much like our newly transformed spaces.

Introducing Hans Tan

Hans Tan is a Singaporean design-maker, curator and educator. He often blurs design, craft and art, emphasising narratives in his work. He uses design as a medium for visual discourse, focusing on material development. Hans has won prestigious awards, including "Les Découvertes" at Maison et Objet 2012 and three President's Design Awards in Singapore.


The Inspiration

The hotel's signature fan, inspired by Singapore, reflects the Garden City's multicultural heritage and botanical beauty. Crafted in ceramic using a resist blasting technique, it combines Peranakan batik design with floral elements, symbolising Singapore's garden city persona. The hues of pink and green are drawn from Peranakan palettes, mirroring the hotel's aesthetic after its redesign by Jeffrey Wilkes of DESIGNWILKES.
