South Carolina Medicaid: Hearing coverage

Your hearing is an important part of your overall health. Look over your hearing coverage and find services to help you.

Managed medical assistance services

Coverage for members younger than 21 includes hearing exams. If prescribed by your doctor, we cover hearing tests.

Under the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) portion of your Humana Healthy Horizons® in South Carolina medical plan, we cover medically necessary hearing screenings and diagnostic testing if prescribed by your doctor, including:

  • 1 hearing aid or cochlear implants, assessment, fitting, checking, and evaluation every 3 years
  • Hearing therapy and related miscellaneous items

You may need to get approval before getting any of the above screenings and diagnostic testing services. This pre-approval is called prior authorization.

To learn more about prior authorization:

If you need hearing services that are not covered by South Carolina Medicaid, you will have to pay for these services. South Carolina Medicaid pays only for medically necessary services.
