Clare Balding quickly apologised live on air when she made a mistake while previewing Tommy Paul's Wimbledon quarter-final against Carlos Alcaraz.

The BBC presenter realised her mistake after ex-pro Chanda Rubin started analysing the contest based on Balding's incorrect fact.

But Rubin jumped in to save Balding after the mix-up.

The BBC's Wimbledon coverage was once again scuppered by rain early on as play on the outside courts was pushed back on day nine of The Championships. It meant there was more time for Balding and co to preview the quarter-finals taking place on the two main stages with roofs - Centre Court and Court 1.

But there was a mix-up when Balding wrongly claimed that Alcaraz vs Paul was given top billing when they have been scheduled on Court 1. Looking back at the American's run to the last eight, she said: "And today funnily enough will be his first time on Centre Court and that’s a pretty big deal."

Former world No. 6 Rubin went on to explain why she thought Paul wouldn't be affected by competing on one of the sport's more prestigious stages. "I think he will embrace that part of it," she replied.

"He’s got a very experienced team behind him. His coach Brad Stine who has really elevated his game and all the different components of his game. And I think that’s what they’re going to be looking to bring today."

But Balding, who has become the face of the BBC's Wimbledon coverage, quickly realised her error. Jumping in, she added: "Actually I’m going to correct myself because they’re not on Centre, are they? They’re on No. 1 Court. Don’t worry about that, sorry."

But Rubin thought it was still compatible as one of the two big ticketed showcourts. " Same vibe," she smiled.

"Same vibe, thank you Chanda. That’s very kind of you," Balding said before turning her attention to the men's quarter-final that did make the Centre Court cut.

"On Centre will be Jannik Sinner against Daniil Medvedev. And that’s why in my head I’m thinking that must be on No. 1 because Medvedev loves No. 1. It’s not, it’s on Centre," she laughed.
