*Warning - The following article contains spoilers from House of the Dragon season 2, episode 4 and major spoilers from George R.R. Martin’s Fire and Blood.*

In House of the Dragon season 2, we see brothers Alyn and Addam of Hull make the odd appearance over the course of several episodes. Their significance in the HBO show is not apparent at first but, thanks to what we know from George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones prequel book Fire & Blood, we know they are going to be important.

We are first introduced to Alyn in episode one of the new series, where we learn he has saved Lord Corlys Velaryon's life at the battle of the Stepstones. We also meet his brother Addam, who watches the dragon Seasmoke from the beach, in episode 2. We can say that Addam and Alyn are both sailors who were born and grew up in a town in Driftmark, but little else is known about the pair. However, in episode 4, a conversation between Corlys and his wife Rhaenys Targaryen implies that Alyn is actually Corlys' bastard son from another woman.

During the illuminating chat, Rhaenys implies Corlys has been withholding a higher position in his naval force from Alyn because he's aware of the connection. As both of Corlys’ children are believed to be dead - despite viewers knowing Leanor may be alive somewhere after faking his own death - this opens up a lot of questions about what lies in store for Alyn and his brother.

Corlys is also now a widower following Rhaenys tragic death in battle at the end of episode 4, meaning the two sons could be his only heirs. So, what becomes of Alyn and Addam? Let’s take a look at the books but, be warned… SPOILERS AHEAD.

What happens to Alyn and Addam in Blood & Fire?

In George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, many events play out similarly to how they do in its HBO adaptation, although some details have changed.

Nevertheless, looking at the books gives us a good indication of what could be up next for these characters.

The novel confirms that both Addam and Alyn are indeed Corlys' bastard children, with their mother Marilda of Hull being a trader and captain from Driftmark.

In Fire & Blood, Rhaenyra's son Jacaerys decides Team Black needs more Dragonriders for the unclaimed dragons to help them in the war against Team Green.

Several people from Driftmark step up including Addam, who successfully bonds with Seasmoke. Meanwhile, Alyn tries to ride the wild dragon Sheepstealer, but the results are disappointing.

Following Addam’s claim to a dragon, Corlys petitions for the boys to be legitimised and they become his official heirs.

House of the Dragon season 2 is set to air in the UK on Mondays at 2am BST (British Summer Time) on Sky Atlantic and NOW. The same episode will also be broadcast again on Monday at 9pm.
