Tim Wonnacott revealed that he was leaving Bargain Hunt for "personal reasons" when he suddenly departed after a mammoth stint of 12 years. However, he never left the BBC, as he still contributes narration to Antiques Road Trip and its celebrity spin-off version.

He's also appeared on Restoration, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is and Ready Steady Cook, to name a few. So why did the veteran presenter sensationally leave the show behind?

He made a statement at the time, revealing: "I am pleased to have been part of Bargain Hunt for so many years and have thoroughly enjoyed every one of my, roughly, 1,200 programmes hunting out bargains with the contestants. Alongside continuing to voice Antiques Road Trip for the BBC, I look forward to developing new programme ideas."

The BBC also honoured his contributions in a statement about his departure. It read: "We would like to thank Tim Wonnacott for his dedication to Bargain Hunt over the last twelve years and for the great expertise that he has brought to the show in that time."

The channel hinted at huge changes behind the scenes, stating that the show would be "moving in a new direction" from 2016 onwards. The statement explained producers planned to "utilise a team of experts who present a number of shows each", adding that Tim "continues to work with the BBC on Antiques Road Trip".

Nothing more was confirmed at the time as the channel declined to comment on "individual staff matters".

Meanwhile, Tim merely stated he had chosen to leave for "personal reasons".

Although there'd been allegations of behind the scenes bullying, these have never been proven and one source at BBC Bristol countered to the Mirror: "I've always found him fine to work with."

Meanwhile, another reason that he could have decided to turn his back on his main role in Bargain Hunt might have been his increasing interest in working on the other side of the world.

Less than three years after leaving, he made the public announcement that he and wife Helen would be selling their country estate and moving to Australia.

He duly put their West Sussex estate on the market for £2.75 million, complete with ten acres of land.

However, over time, rumours circulated that he might be returning to Britain.

He's been active on social media and has shared details demonstrating he's been attending auctions in the UK.

He'd previously told the Telegraph that he'd "always regard England as his home" - so could it be that he's making a full-time return? Only time will tell.
