UK cold weather: Exact date mercury drops to 4C hours after 21C 'heat bomb' - new maps

Parts of Britain are set to see temperatures rise above 20C in the coming week - but many areas will see it dip again just as quickly.

The latest maps from WX Charts predict parts of the country could be as warm as 21C on Tuesday afternoon.

The forecaster predicts areas of East Anglia, the East Midlands and parts of the West Midlands will see the highest temperatures at that time.

However, the 'heat bomb' is not expected to last for too long in some areas.

By Thursday morning the mercury will have dipped significantly in some parts of Britain, if the weather charts are accurate.

Temperatures are expected to dip as low as 4C in some areas of the country - with parts of Scotland set to see the lowest ones.

The Met Office weather forecast for Tuesday and into the week ahead states: " Remaining unsettled as low pressure tracks northwards through Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Turning more settled on Thursday but remaining cool for many, but a little warmer in the south."

The forecaster's longer range forecast, which now covers up until July 21, states: " Many areas should start this period mostly dry as a ridge of high pressure dominates the UK.

"It should feel pleasant enough in mostly light winds and sunshine, with temperatures generally near average, but some rural areas could experience chilly nights.

"However there is also a chance that rain may fringe into easternmost and southwesternmost areas at times. Then a transition to more generally changeable conditions looks most likely, though with a northwest-southeast split in fortunes.

"Northwestern areas will probably see more in the way of cloud and rain, whereas southeastern parts stand a better chance of longer periods of drier and at times, somewhat warmer weather. However, some rain may extend further southeast across all parts of the UK from time to time."
