Tragedy has struck at a recycling plant in Wales as police have initiated a probe into the devastating death of a man on-site.

In a catastrophic turn of events this Monday, July 8, emergency crews descended upon the Atlantic Recycling Site located in Cardiff's Rumney district after receiving distressing calls about an injured individual.

South Wales' brave firefighters were dispatched at exactly 12:44pm, and it is believed that the site was still swarming with emergency services well into the evening.

The man caught up in the tragedy is thought to have been a contractor engaged in routine maintenance work when disaster struck. South Wales Police said: "Emergency services were called to a report of an injured man at the Atlantic Recycling site in Cardiff, this afternoon (Monday, July 8).

"South Wales Police can confirm the man has died and his family has been informed. The Health and Safety Executive has also been informed and an investigation into the incident is ongoing."

A spokesperson from Dauson Environmental Group told Wales Online: "Dauson Environmental Group can confirm an incident occurred on Monday 8th July 2024 involving a contractor carrying out maintenance at the Atlantic Recycling site in Cardiff. We are continuing to support the emergency services and regulators with their ongoing investigations at this time."
