Love it or hate it - cleaning is something that has to be done.

Grime and dust collects every day in our humble abodes, so it's our job to make sure they stay as tidy as possible. One thing you probably do daily is mop the floor.

After all, not many of us can get through the day without spilling something. The only thing is, mops can get pretty dirty themselves, and this can cause them to smell.

But, according to a social media expert, doing one simple thing could rid the whiff. According to SAL Cleaning for You, on Instagram, a simple hack will leave your mop odour-free.

All you need is a few simple ingredients to clean your mop to perfection. And to make things even better, they're probably things you already have in your cupboard.

The team shared a video of them cleaning their mop, and explained exactly what people need to do. In a post, they wrote: "How to keep mop from smelling?

"Use vinegar or baking soda to deodorise your mop. Vinegar is a natural deodoriser that can help eliminate unpleasant odours from your mop.

"Add one cup of white vinegar or one cup of baking soda to a bucket of hot water, and use this mixture to clean your mop head. After cleaning, rinse the mop head with plain water and hang it up to dry."

So, there you have it, it's not as hard as you think. In fact, making your mop smell-free is pretty easy.

People have been loving the advice online, and can't believe they've never tried it before. It turns out a lot of people are sick of their pongy mops.

Replying to the post, one person said: "Thanks for the info." Another wrote: "No need to buy a new mop sponge every second month just because of a smell."

A third replied: "I also have several mop heads to use it for different parts of the home. Walls, kitchen, bathroom and store the clean ones in a gallon plastic bags with a label of what part I use it for."

Meanwhile, a fourth commented: "Thank you for this tip."

Others were keen to share their own methods though, with many claiming they just "throw it in the wash". Some also admitted to buying new mop heads when they needed to.

One thing is for sure though - it's a nifty trick if you have the ingredients to hand. Not to mention, it'll save on your energy bills too.
