Nominations and applications for the Advancing Georgia’s Leaders in Agriculture and Forestry Program Class of 2025-2026 will open on June 1! Applications will be accepted through July 31. Participants will be selected through a nomination, application, and interview process. Anyone can serve as a nominator and submit their contact information along with the nominee's contact information with a written statement of support through this form.Prospective candidates should be actively involved in Georgia’s agriculture, forestry, natural resources and/or supporting industries and have demonstrated leadership potential. While there is no minimum education requirement, participants should be able to demonstrate leadership experience, work experience, and a high level of maturity, being the age of 25 years or older. Nominees will be invited to apply, and no more than 40 finalists will be invited to interview for the class.Each class will have up to 25 individuals diverse in age, gender, ethnicity, geographic location, professional background, and level of experience.

The 2024 Sunbelt Ag Expo Field Research Days are scheduled for July 10-24, and farmers are invited to join us at their convenience during this two week period tolearn practical information about the newest technologies that they can use to improve their operations. UGA researchers, Extension Specialists, and ag chemical representatives conduct numerous trials at the Sunbelt farm for all major southern agronomic crops.

Our statewide research impact

The Research and Education Centers (RECs) play a central role in this mission by providing faculty and students with the opportunity to conduct experiments across a wide range of environments and production systems. CAES has eight off-campus REC facilities located throughout the state.

This research network is vital to Georgia agriculture and collectively allows faculty and students to address local production concerns as well as to answer more fundamental research questions and further the development of new technologies related to agriculture and natural resources.

The Plant Center: A nexus for plant research at UGA
The University of Georgia Plant Center is a collection of faculty and scientists from across multiple campuses who share common interests in plant science. From basic science in plant biology and genomics to highly applied projects in genetics and plant breeding, researchers run the gamut of plant-based research. More than 60 faculty are affiliated with the center, hailing from seven departments across four colleges and schools and three separate campuses in Athens, Tifton and Griffin.

It’s summertime, and there are a few things residents of the Deep South can count on this time of year — heat, humidity and insects. Fireflies and cicadas are popular topics these days, but of all the creeping, crawling, buzzing creatures that bug us, one is met with near-universal revulsion — the cockroach. Whether you’re new to the South or a lifelong resident, you’ve likely run into one of the several species of cockroaches that are common in the region.

CAES student follows her zeal for food safety to UGA School of Law
The career world is wide open for students at the University of Georgia, a life lesson third-year student Emily Harris learned as a food science major in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Harris plans to attend the UGA School of Law to pursue a degree in food regulation and law this fall, a unique path she discovered through classes in the Department of Food Science and Technology.
