‘People love this Aaron Sorkin concept idea’: Could Biden be replaced as nominee?

President Biden is causing chaos in the Democratic party. Will they stand by their man? Unclear, says political reporter James Pindell.

Biden’s interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on Friday night didn’t “give the confidence to a lot of Democrats that he can actually get the job done,” said Pindell to Boston Globe Today host Segun Oduolowu.

Pindell is the guest on the recurring segment “3 Political Things,” detailing the biggest topics that week in politics. Watch the segment at the top of this story.

And then, in a surprise interview with MSNBC on Monday, President Biden said he was “frustrated by the elites” in the Democratic party who have called for him to step aside in the race and dared them to challenge him for the nomination. Shortly before the interview, the president released a letter to congressional Democrats in which he said he would not leave the race and demanded party unity in the effort to beat Donald Trump.

“This week is the first time Congress returns to Capitol Hill since the debate,” said the political reporter. “This could be, or should be, the most pivotal week of this question whether Biden is going to be the nominee or not.”

As for who could replace him, if anyone, there’s “not some kind of mini-five week sprint of a primary, no matter how many people love this Aaron Sorkin concept idea that there could be one,” said Pindell.

But, there’s only one person that could replace him. Pindell explains who and how in the full segment here.
