Thirteen mopeds were seized and three men were arrested Monday after officers in the Back Bay enforced motor vehicle law violations involving mopeds and motorcycles, Boston police said.

The men arrested were identified as Thomas Gomez-Vera, 21, of East Boston, Recep Demirel, 28, of Boston, and Kenan Yeler, 20, of Somerville, Boston police said.

Gomez-Vera was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court/Central Division on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, failure to obey a lawful command by a police officer, resisting arrest, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and was issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for an unregistered motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle, and marked lanes violation, according to police and court records.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was ordered held at the Suffolk County jail in lieu of posting $500 bail, court records show.

Police found Gomez-Vera’s moped was unregistered, uninsured and cannot be operated on a public way, according to the statement. Gomez-Vera who was gathering personal belongings off his moped, attempted to flee police on the sidewalk and collided with two officers. After a brief struggle, Gomez-Vera was taken into custody, police said.

Officers arrested and charged two other suspects, police said.

Demirel is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating an uninsured and unregistered motor vehicle, police said.

Kenan Yeler is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of receiving a stolen motor vehicle, police said.

Information about arraignments for Demeril and Yeler were not immediately available Tuesday night.
