Pig → Sus (genus)

[edit]

The template links to Sus (genus), currently a redirect, because the article now at Pig is going to be moved there, and because I am checking incoming links to Pig. 69.3.72.249 (talk) 23:25, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There should be no redirects on a navigation page: this is to ensure the link turns black when you are actually on the page. See WP:NAV, under Avoiding redirects. As for whether the page will be moved, that's yet to be decided: it looks like there's no consensus to me but I've not been following it closely, and that's probably for an admin to determine. Navigation boxes are much like DAB pages in that they serve to navigate between existing pages, not a possible but undecided future set or arrangement.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 09:01, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Use of image in template

[edit]

An editor has asserted without evidence of any kind that the image selected for this template is purely decorative. The only problem with that is that the image has a clear and definite function, to identify visually the domain of the template, and indeed to characterise the animal involved, showing both a sow and a suckling piglet. It is not the case that images are forbidden in templates; this image is plainly relevant to the subject, illustrates it clearly and directly, and conveys something of the nature of the domain with adult and infant animals and the relationship between them. I'd call that pretty good for a single image, the opposite of ignorantly decorative, something which we rightly seek to avoid. There is a clear danger of using ALL CAPS edit comments to attempt to stifle argument and with a LINK or TWO to give a wholly spurious impression of authority and enforcement. WP:DECOR has precisely no objection to images that contribute usefully to the pages they are included in. Chiswick Chap (talk) 20:53, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
