Hong Kong and Macau

[edit]

This section is started to facilitate discussion regarding the inclusion of Hong Kong and Macau. SchmuckyTheCat has made multiple disruptive reverts to undo all my edits, including those unrelated to Hong Kong or Macau, without any edit summary. He (presumably a he) didn't state his rationale in this talk page (in the section right above) until hours if not days after he has been reverting disruptively. 119.236.250.27 (talk) 22:09, 11 June 2011 (UTC) Here are those disruptive reverts [1]. 119.236.250.27 (talk) 22:18, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

To add {{nowrap|'''{{sup|8}}''' Classified as Melanesia according to some definitions  }} for Dili, East Timor, and to change footnotes #8 ~ #12 to #9 ~ #13 accordingly. 119.236.250.27 (talk) 22:42, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Partly done: - I didn't change the ref numbers as there doesn't seem to be a pattern to me. Avicennasis @ 16:43, 16 Sivan 5771 / 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much indeed. If you look into the edit history, the numbering sequence was actually rationalised. But those edits were all undone by vandalists. Could you help restore those edits? 119.236.250.27 (talk) 14:53, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Russia

[edit]

I have a question. Turkey and Russia are country's wich are in Europe and Asia. And Ankara is added in this template as the capital of Turkey. But Moscow is not on this template. I don't understand it. Can anybody explain it or add Moscow, Russia on this template?

Turkey's capital Ankara is located in Asia, and Russia's capital Moscow is located in Europe. Stuntneare (talk) 20:20, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cairo and Moscow

[edit]

Some editors have reverted my contributions to the list with regards to Moscow and Cairo because Russia and Egypt are transcontinental countries that have core territory in Asia. The first editor reverted without an explanation, so I reverted it. The second editor resorted to personal attacks and called me a troll saying my edit had no geographical basis. I do not like the way my edit were treated but I really do not want to enter an edit war. 103.24.77.51 (talk) 08:07, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • To add on, a country like Turkey gets to be in both lists but why not Egypt and Russia? 103.24.77.51 (talk) 08:08, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • Sorry, just to clarify a few things here if this even gets read; I wanted to say that Ankara and Turkey is in both the lists for European and Asian capitals. Additionally, the first and second editor mentioned at the top were the same person. 103.24.77.51 (talk) 08:15, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
      • @103.24.77.51: The point is, Moscow and Cairo are NOT geographically located in Asia. From a demographic point of view, 80% of Russia's population lives in Europe. Moscow is a European city - see List of European cities by population within city limits.
      • Egypt is an African country to its core. I have not seen anybody ever claim Egypt is an Asian state. Cairo is among the largest cities in Africa, located in the Egyptian mainland, not on the small Asian part. Adding them would be wrong geographically and politically. Comparing Russia and Egypt to Turkey is plain wrong, Turkey is an Asiatic country culturally and geographically. Most of its population lives in Asia, and the capital Ankara is indeed located in Asia. It is not a European city. Stuntneare (talk) 15:03, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
        • Based on what I have read on Wikipedia, both Russia and Egypt are considered Asian and part of another continent (Europe and Africa respectively). Then, I would want to ask, why is there a double standard when the capitals of other countries such as Kazakhstan (is primarily an Asian country but is partially in Europe) and Cyprus (it is culturally and politically aligned with Europe with a significant Greek populace, but is geographically located in West Asia) in the list? Additionally, a country like Russia has a significant Asian population coming from the indigenous people of Siberia and is involved in Asian organisations such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation. 103.24.77.51 (talk) 14:23, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
          • I wanted to add on: Nicosia on this list and Nur-Sultan on the European list. 202.94.70.51 (talk) 14:25, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
            • My IP just changed but it is from the same institution. 202.94.70.51 (talk) 14:26, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
              • Nicosia and Nur-Sultan are both located within Asia's boundaries. They belong to the list. Cyprus is geographically a Middle Eastern island. Cairo is located in Africa, and Moscow located thousands of miles away from the Asian side. If Russia's capital was Vladivostok, then well... I would've not had argued with you. Even America is involved with the Asia-Pacific Economic Corporation, it is not a pan-Asian corporation. It is a corporation of countries in Asia and around the Pacific. Only a handful of Asian countries are present within it; many foreign, such as countries like Mexico, Peru, Chile, Australia etc.
              • Kazakhstan does have a part of it in Europe, and it is a part of the Council of Europe. Cyprus is present on that template due to it being a part of the EU. There are notes for them. Stuntneare (talk) 13:12, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
